SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea from Sept. 11-17, 2008.

11 The (North) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) says an international literary awards ceremony was held at the People's Palace of Culture in Pyongyang on Sept. 10 to celebrate the 60th founding anniversary of the DPRK (North Korea).

   11 The KCNA says a solidarity meeting to support the (North) Korean people in their struggle to implement the June 15 joint declaration and the Oct. 4 declaration was held in Pyongyang on Sept. 10.

   11 An exhibition of architectural designs was held at the Art Exhibition Hall in Kangwon Province between Sept. 1 and 10 on the occasion of the 60th birthday of the DPRK, the KCNA reports.

   11 The KCNA says the (North) Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries hosted a reception at the Yanggakdo International Hotel in Pyongyang on Sept. 10 in honor of the foreign guests who participated in the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the DPRK.

   11 Alejandro Cao de Benos, chairman of the (North) Korean Friendship Association headquartered in Spain, visits the Pyongyang Mission of the Anti-Imperialist National Democratic Front (AINDF).

   12 The KCNA says the seventh National Games of Agricultural Workers and the fifth National Peasant Dance Contest of Agricultural Workers were held in Pyongyang from Sept. 8 to 11 to celebrate the 60th birthday of the DPRK.

   12 Kim Yong-nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA), and Pak Ui-chun, minister of Foreign Affairs, meet with Koitsiro Matsuura, director-general of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), at the Mansudae Assembly Hall in Pyongyang.

   12 Choe Thae-bok, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of (North) Korea (WPK), meets with the delegation of the Workers' Party of Mexico headed by Reginaldo Sandobal, coordinator of its National Coordinating Committee, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   12 A friendship delegation of Myanmar headed by Aung Thein Lynn, mayor of Yangon City and chairman of Yangon City Development Committee, arrives in Pyongyang.

   12 The Kimilsungia-Kimjongilia show in celebration of the 60th birthday of the DPRK is closed with due ceremony at the Kimilsungia-Kimjongilia Exhibition in Pyongyang.

   12 The sports contest held to celebrate the 60th birthday of the DPRK comes to a close at the Basketball Gymnasium in Chongchun Street in Pyongyang after opening on Sept. 5.

   12 Malaysian Ambassador to the DPRK Rahimi Bin Harun hosts a reception at the Taedong River Club for the Diplomatic Corps on the occasion of the national day of Malaysia.

   12 Kim Yong-nam and Premier Kim Yong-il send a message of sympathy to Raul Castro Ruz, president of the Council of State and president of the Council of Ministers of Cuba, following the devastating hurricane that hit Cuba, causing extensive damage.

   12 Kim Yong-il sends a congratulatory message to S. Bayar, on his reelection as prime minister of Mongolia.

   13 The KCNA says the 11th Pyongyang International Film Festival will be held in Pyongyang from Sept. 17 to 26.

   13 The KCNA says the fourth Pyongyang Autumn International Trade Fair will be held in Pyongyang from Sept. 22 to 25.

   13 The delegation of the Workers' Party of Mexico returns home after winding up its visit to the DPRK.

   13-15 The Sixth National Ssirum (Korean wrestling) Tournament for the 'Grand Bull Prize' is held on Rungra Island of Pyongyang.

   14 The KCNA says North Korean leader Kim Jong-il sent a congratulatory message to Russian President Dmitri Anatoliyevich Medvedev on his birthday.

   14 Wreaths are laid before the graves of Kim Po-hyon, Ri Po-ik, Kim Hyong-jik and Kang Pan-sok, who are Kim Jong-il's ancestors, in Mangyongdae on the occasion of the autumn festival.

   14 Wreaths are laid before the martyrs' cemeteries in different areas of the country on the harvest moon day or 'Chuseok.'
14 Wreaths are laid before the Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery on Mt. Taesong and the Patriotic Martyrs Cemetery on the occasion of the autumn festival.

   14 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of sympathy to Russian President Medvedev after an airliner crash in Russia that claimed human losses.

   15 Kim Yong-nam meets with the congratulatory group of Koreans in Japan celebrating the 60th founding anniversary of the DPRK, headed by Nam Sung-u, vice-chairman of the Central Standing Committee of the pro-Pyongyang General Association of Korean Residents in Japan, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   15 The KCNA says Sin Hong-chol was appointed as DPRK ambassador to Bangladesh, according to a decree promulgated by the SPA Presidium.

   16 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greetings to Felipe Calderon Hinojosa, president of Mexico, on the occasion of the 198th anniversary of its independence.

   16 A delegation of the DPRK-China Friendship Association headed by Choe Chang-sik, minister of Public Health who is chairman of the Central Committee of the association, leaves Pyongyang to visit China.

   16 Yang Hyong-sop, vice president of the SPA Presidium, meets with the Myanmar friendship delegation at the Mansudae Assembly Hall when it paid a courtesy call on him.

   17 A public presentation on the protection of wildlife and marine resources is held at the Grand People's Study House in Pyongyang on the fifth anniversary of the release of Kim Jong-il's essay, titled "On Thoroughly Implementing the Party's Line of Attaching Importance to Science and Technology."

   17 Yang Hyong-sop meets with a National Sports Commission delegation from Laos led by President Phouthong Seng-Akhom at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   17 The 11th Pyongyang International Film Festival opens with due ceremony at the Pyongyang International Cinema House.
