SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea between Oct. 16-22, 2008.

16 The North's Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) announces the publication of "Complete Book on Kimilsungia" and "Complete Book on Kimjongilia" by a compilation committee of horticultural experts from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK/ North Korea). Both Kimilsungia and Kimjongilia are the flowers named after the North's leaders of the Kims.

   16 The KCNA says a meeting to mark the publication of the 20,000th issue of Minju Joson, the organ of the North's Cabinet, was held on Oct. 15.

   16 Kim Yong-nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA), receives credentials from Nepalese Ambassador to the DPRK Tanka Prasad Karki at the Mansudae Assembly Hall in Pyongyang.

   16 A gathering to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the DPRK and Russia is held at the Rungrado Recreation Grounds under the co-sponsorship of the (North) Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, the Russian embassy in Pyongyang and the DPRK-Russia Friendship Association.

   16 Lao Ambassador to the DPRK Chaleune Warinthrasak visits the DPRK-Laos Friendship Taewon Cooperative Farm in Sadong District, Pyongyang, where he offers a hand to local farmers pulling in the harvest.

   16 A delegation from the Institute of Philosophy, Sociology and Law of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences headed by the institute's director, Chuluunbaatar Gelegpil, arrives in Pyongyang.

   16 The KCNA reports North Korean leader Kim Jong-il sent several installments of some 100 different new books and CDs to the Grand People's Study House in Pyongyang in recent days.

   16 The Polish royal string quartet gives a performance at Pyongyang Kimwongyun Conservatory to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the DPRK and Poland.

   16 Polish Ambassador to the DPRK, Roman Iwaszkiewicz, hosts a reception marking the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the DPRK and Poland.

   17 SPA Presidium Vice President Yang Hyong-sop meets with a delegation from the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by Vice Minister Ryszard Schnepf, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   17 Kim Yong-nam meets with outgoing New Zealand Ambassador to the DPRK Jane Coombs, who paid a farewell call on Kim at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   17 The KCNA reports talks between DPRK Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov are held in Moscow on Oct. 15.

   17 The KCNA reports a plan for exchanges between the Foreign Ministry of the DPRK and the Russian Foreign Ministry between 2009-2010 was signed in Moscow on Oct. 15.

   17 Charge d'Affaires ad Interim Sek Chansangvar and staff members from the Cambodian embassy in Pyongyang do volunteer work at the DPRK-Cambodia Friendship Paeksok Cooperative Farm in Sinchon County, South Hwanghae Province.

   17 The 27th annual Yunisang Concert, held in Pyongyang's Yunisang Concert Hall from Oct. 15, ends.

   17 Opening ceremonies for the 11th annual People's Sports Contest are held at Kimilsung Stadium in Pyongyang.

   17 Exhibitions and performances are held in theaters around Pyongyang and other regions of the country to mark the 82nd anniversary of the formation of the Down-with-Imperialism Union (DIU). North Korea claims DIU was a communist youth organization set up by the North's founder, Kim Il-sung, in 1926 as a predecessor to the North's communist party.

   18 The KCNA reports a meeting and art performance was held in the Mongolian capital of Ulan Bator on Oct. 10 to mark the 20th anniversary of Kim Il-sung's visit to the country, the 63rd anniversary of the founding of the North's Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and the 60th anniversary of the opening of diplomatic relations between the DPRK and Mongolia.

   18 Wreaths are laid before the grave of Ri Po-ik, Kim Jong-il's great-grandmother, in Mangyongdae to mark the 49th anniversary of her passing. Ri is known by people in the North as 'ardent patriot.'

   18 A visiting group from South Korea's "Isang Yun Peace Foundation," headed by Director Shin Geh-ryeun, leaves Pyongyang by air after participating in the 27th annual Yunisang Concert.

   18 Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun arrives back in Pyongyang after visiting Russia.

   20 The KCNA reports the Kimilsungia-Kimjongilia Research Center has recently developed an agent to keep the North Korean bred Kimjongilia flower in bloom for longer periods.

   20 A delegation from Myanmar's Ministry of Sports, led by Minister Aye Myint, arrives in Pyongyang.

   20 A government delegation from the Republic of Namibia, headed by Foreign Minister Marco Hausiku, arrives in Pyongyang.

   20 Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun meets with a government delegation from Namibia, which paid a courtesy call on Pak at the Mansudae Assembly Hall, during which Namibia's Foreign Minister handed Pak a personal message addressed to Kim Jong-il from Namibian President Hifikepunye Pohamba.

   20 The DPRK government arranges a reception at the Mansudae Assembly Hall in honor of the Namibian delegation's visit.

   21 The KCNA reports an inter-governmental agreement was signed on air service between the DPRK and Kuwait in the Persian Gulf state on Oct. 15.

   21 Talks are held between Pak Ui-chun and Namibian Foreign Minister at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   21 Kim Yong-nam sends a congratulatory message to Ilham Aliyev on his reelection as president of Azerbaijan.

   21 A delegation from the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, led by Thongloun Sisoulith, who is a member of the Lao Political Bureau and serves as chairman of the Commission for External Affairs of the party's Central Committee, as well as vice prime minister and minister of foreign affairs of the Lao government, arrives in Pyongyang.

   21 A photo exhibition titled "History of Czech Beer" opens at the Pyongyang International Cultural Centre to commemorate the 90th national day of the Czech Republic.

   21 Talks between delegations of the WPK and the Lao People's Revolutionary Party are held in Pyongyang.

   21 The Central Committee of the WPK holds a reception for a visiting delegation of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party at the People's Palace of Culture in Pyongyang.

   21 A national "August 3 mass consumption goods" exhibition opens in Pyongyang.

   21 Premier Kim Yong-il sends a congratulatory message to Adolphe Muzito upon his appointment as prime minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

   21 A 2008-2010 agreement on the cooperation and the exchange of delegations between the WPK and the Lao People's Revolutionary Party is signed in Pyongyang.

   22 The KCNA says Kim Yong-nam sent a message of greetings to Mongolian President Nambariin Enkhbayar on Oct. 14 to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two nations.

   22 Bambang Daranindra, charge d' affaires ad interim, and the staff members of the Indonesian embassy in Pyongyang do "friendship labor" at the DPRK-Indonesia Friendship Yaksu Cooperative Farm in Kangso County, South Pyongan Province.
