SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea from Oct. 23-29, 2008.

23 The art troupe of the Political Department of the Air Force of the Chinese People's Liberation Army headed by its Deputy Director Song Kun arrives in Pyongyang for the performance of the Chinese modern dance drama "A Song in Praise of Hongmei."

   23 The (North) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) says Kim Yong-nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA), sent a message of greetings to Rupiah Bwezani Banda, acting president of Zambia, on Oct. 21 for the 44th anniversary of its independence.

   23 The KCNA says the Pyongyang Publishing House has recently published the picture album "Scenes of Celebrated Mountains of (North) Korea" and the guidebook "Here Is Pyongyang."

   23 Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun meets with Abdulla Abdulrahman Al Muftah, the new Qatari ambassador to the DPRK (North Korea), who paid him a courtesy call.

   23 Russian Ambassador to the DPRK Valery Sukhinin and staff members of his embassy help farmers with the harvest at the DPRK-Russia Friendship Kochang Cooperative Farm in Chollima County, South Pyongan Province.

   23 The KCNA criticizes the Japanese newspapers Yomiuri Shimbun and Sankei Shimbun, which recently reported that the DPRK instructed its diplomats in foreign countries to be on standby for the possible of a "announcement of crucial measure," calling the reports "a whopping lie."

   23 An art exhibition opens at the Chollima House of Culture on the Day of Cuban Culture.

   23 A delegation of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party led by Thongloun Sisoulith, member of the Political Bureau and chairman of the Commission for External Affairs of the Central Committee of the party, who is also the vice prime minister and minister of foreign affairs of the Lao government, leaves Pyongyang after wrapping up a three-day-long visit to the DPRK.

   23 The KCNA says Premier of the Cabinet Kim Yong-il on Oct. 15 sent a message to Yehude Simon Munaro congratulating him on his appointment as prime minister of the Republic of Peru.

   23 Kim Yong-nam receives credentials from Abdulla Abdulrahman Al Muftah, Qatari ambassador to the DPRK, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall in Pyongyang.

   23 Kim Yong-nam meets with a delegation of the Zamfara State Government of Nigeria, led by its Executive Governor Alh Mahmud Aliyu Shinkafi, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   23 A memorandum of understanding on cooperation in sports between the Physical Culture and Sports Guidance Commission of the DPRK and the Ministry of Sports of Myanmar is signed at the People's Palace of Culture.

   23 The 19th National Software Contest and Exhibition opens at the Three Revolution Exhibition in Pyongyang.

   24 The KCNA says the (North) Korean Documentary and Scientific Film Studio has newly produced several scientific films such as "Flexible Manufacturing System for Machining Body," "Intellectual Property" and "Wormwood Rice Cake, National Food."

   24 Sodovjamts Khurelbaatar, Mongolian ambassador to the DPRK, and staff members of his embassy do friendship work at the DPRK-Mongolia Friendship Jongbang Cooperative Farm in Sariwon City, North Hwanghae Province.

   24 A delegation of the Chinese Ministry of Water Resources headed by Chief Engineer Liu Ning arrives in Pyongyang.

   25 The KCNA says Kim Yong-nam sent a message of greetings to Heinz Fischer, federal president of the Republic of Austria, on Oct. 14 for its national day.

   25 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greetings to Nursultan Nazarbayev, president of Kazakhstan, on the occasion of its national day.

   25 The KCNA says the DPRK government decided to send aid materials to the Cuban government to help the Cuban people cope with the aftermath of the hurricanes that caused damage in August and September.
