SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea from Feb. 19-25.
19 Kim Yong-nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA), sends a congratulatory message to Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on his success in amending the South American country's Constitution, allowing him to stay in power.
19 Chinese Ambassador to Pyongyang Liu Xiaoming holds a reception at his embassy to mark the 50th anniversary of the agreement on cultural cooperation signed between China and North Korea.
19 Valery Sukhinin, Russian ambassador to Pyongyang, holds a reception at his embassy in celebration of Kim Jong-il's 67th birthday, which fell on Feb. 16. The party was attended by Choe Thae-bok, chairman of the SPA and secretary of the Workers' Party, and Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun, among others, according to the North's Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
19 Morteza Moradian, Iranian ambassador to the North, gives a reception at his embassy to celebrate Kim Jong-il's birthday that is attended by Choe Thae-bok and Jong Yong-su, minister of Labor, among others.
19 The National Defense Commission (NDC) and the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party name General O Kuk-ryol as a NDC vice chairman.
20 The KCNA says Kim Yong-nam on Feb. 18 sent a message of greetings to Robert G. Mugabe, president of Zimbabwe, for his 85th birthday.
20 The 13th Kimjongilia Festival closes with due ceremony in Pyongyang, wrapping up a six-day run to mark Kim jong-il's birthday. The closing is attended by Choe Thae-bok, Yang Hyong-sop and other high-level party officials.
21 Premier Kim Yong-il sends a message of greetings to John George Melvin Compton, prime minister of the Saint Lucia, for its 30th independence day.
21 The KCNA says North Korean leader Kim Jong-il inspected the Kimchaek Iron and Steel Complex and the Ranam Coal Mining Machine Complex in North Hamgyong Province.
21 Liu Xiaoming, Chinese ambassador to Pyongyang, hosts a reception at his embassy to mark the 3rd anniversary of Kim Jong-il's visit to China. Choe Thae-bok, Ri Kwang-ho, department director of the WPK, and Kim Yong-il, a vice minister of Foreign Affairs are in attendance.
22 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greetings to Guyanese President Bharrat Jagdeo for the 39th anniversary of the proclamation of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.
23 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il inspected the Musan Ore Mining Complex in Musan, North Hamgyong Province.
23 A national meeting of "activists" in the agricultural field is held at the People's Palace of Culture in Pyongyang, attended by Kim Yong-il, Choe Thae-bok and other leading party and government officials.
23 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of sympathy to Leonel Fernandez Reyna, president of the Dominican Republic, after torrential rain that hit the northeastern part of the country, claiming huge human and material losses.
23 Kim Yong-nam and Premier Kim Yong-il sends a message of sympathy to Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao after a gas explosion at a coal mine in Shanxi Province killed a number of people.

24 Abdelhafiz Misbah Bin Rabha, chief of the Economic Cooperation Bureau of the Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, hosts a reception for North Korean officials at the Taedong River Diplomatic Corps Club to celebrate Kim Jong-il's birthday and the 35th anniversary of diplomatic ties between North Korea and Libya.
24 Kim Jung-rin, secretary of the Workers' Party, confers with the delegation of the Vietnam Women's Union headed by Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa, president of its Central Committee, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.
24 Premier Kim Yong-il sends a message of greetings to Sheikh Nasser Al-Muhammad Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, prime minister of Kuwait, to mark the country's liberation day.
