SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea between July 16-22, 2009.
16 The (North) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) says Kim Yong-nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA) who is attending the 15th summit of non-aligned countries (NAM) in Egypt, on July 14 held talks with Cuban President Raul Castro Ruz and Nguyen Minh Triet, president of Vietnam, on the sidelines of the summit.
16 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greetings to Alvaro Uribe Velez, president of Colombia, to mark its national day.
16 Tiago Alexandre Ferraz Vieira, chairman of the World Federation of Democratic Youth, arrives in Pyongyang for a visit.
17 Kim Jung-rin, secretary of the Workers' Party of (North) Korea (WPK), meets with the chairman of the World Federation of Democratic Youth at Mansudae Assembly Hall in Pyongyang.
17 The KCNA says Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun sent a message of greetings to his Sudanese counterpart, Deng Alor, on June 20 to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
17 Kim Yong-nam meets with Egyptian President Muhammad Hosni Mubarak on the sidelines of the NAM summit.
17 The KCNA says North Korean leader Kim Jong-il inspected (North) Korean People's Army (KPA) Navy Unit 597.
18 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greetings to Daniel Ortega Saavedra, president of Nicaragua, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the victorious Sandinista people's revolution.
