SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea between Oct. 1-7, 2009.

1 The (North) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) says a North Korean book, photo and fine art exhibition opened with due ceremony in Beijing on Sept. 29 to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

   1 Kim Yong-nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, sends a message of greetings to Moussa Dadis Camara, president of Guinea, on the occasion of the 51st anniversary of the independence of his country.

   1 Kim Yong-nam meets with a delegation of the Women's International Democratic Federation led by President Marcia de Campos Pereira at Mansudae Assembly Hall in Pyongyang.

   1 The KCNA says Kim Yong-nam on Sept. 29 sent a message of sympathy to Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, president of Philippines, as regards tropical storm that hit the country recently, claiming huge human casualties and material losses.

   1 A 2010 protocol on commodity exchange between the governments of North Korea and Cuba is signed in Havana by Ri Ryong-nam, minister of Foreign Trade who is heading the North Korean government economic delegation, and Fidel Figueroa de la Paz, minister of Construction of Cuba.

   1 The reunion of separated families and relatives from the two Koreas that began at Mt. Kumgang Resort on Sept. 26 closes.

   1 Yusuf Amuda Abubakar, Nigerian ambassador to North Korea, gives a reception at his embassy on the occasion of the 49th anniversary of the independence of Nigeria, attended by North Korean Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun.

   2 A photo exhibition opens with due ceremony in Pyongyang to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between North Korea and China.

   2 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greetings to the German President Horst Kohler on the occasion of its national day.

   2 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of sympathy to Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Indonesian president, with regard to an earthquake that hit West Sumatra Province of Indonesia, claiming huge casualties and property losses.

   2 A delegation of the National Tourism Administration of China led by Vice Chairman Wang Zhifa arrives in Pyongyang for a visit.

   2 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il met soldiers participating in various state construction projects.

   2 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il gave field guidance to the Central Tree Nursery and the Ostrich Farm.

   2 Thomas Schafer, German ambassador to North Korea gives a reception at the Taedong River Diplomatic Corps Club in Pyongyang on the occasion of the national day of Germany.

   3 A Chinese youth friendship delegation led by Lu Hao, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China, arrives in Pyongyang.

   3 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greetings to Letsie III, king of Lesotho, on the occasion of the 43rd anniversary of its independence.

   4 Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao flies into Pyongyang for a visit. Kim Jong-il greets the Chinese official at the airport.

   4 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of sympathy to Nguyen Minh Triet, president of Vietnam, with reference to a tropical typhoon that hit the country recently, claiming huge human casualties and material losses.

   4 Kim Jong-il watches "The Dream of the Red Chamber" with the Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao at the Pyongyang Grand Theater.

   4 A ceremony is held in Pyongyang for signing a number of agreements between North Korea and China, including the protocol on the adjustment of treaties and the agreement on economic and technological cooperation between two countries, attended by Premier Kim Yong-il and his Chinese counterpart Wen Jiabao.

   5 Kim Jong-il exchanges a message of greetings with the Chinese President Hu Jintao on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

   5 A banquet is given by the Workers' Party and the North Korean Cabinet in Pyongyang to welcome the Chinese premier and mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

   5 Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun sends a message of greetings to Yang Jiechi, minister of Foreign Affairs of China, to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties.

   5 A joint art performance is given in Pyongyang by the Mansudae Art Troupe and the Chinese art troupe in celebration of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties.

   5 Kim Yong-nam meets with Wen Jiabao at Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   5 Kim Jong-il visits the state guest house for Wen Jiabao.

   5 Kim Jong-il hosts a dinner in honor of Wen Jiabao at the Paekhwawon State Guest House.

   5 A closing ceremony of the "DPRK (North Korea)-China friendship" and "Arirang," a mass gymnastic show, is held at the May Day Stadium, attended by Kim Jong-il and the Chinese premier.

   6 Wen Jiabao and his party visit the North Korea-China Friendship Thaekam Cooperative Farm in Pyongyang, accompanied by Kim Yong-il, vice minister of Foreign Affairs, and Choe Jin-su, North Korean ambassador to Beijing.

   6 Wen Jiabao returns home, wrapping up a three-day visit to North Korea.

   6 The Academy Ensemble of the Interior Unit of the Russian Ministry of Interior led by its chief Viktor Yeliseev, and a delegation of the Workers' Party of Mexico headed by Leobardo Alcantara Martinez, director of the party training institution, arrive in Pyongyang for visits.

   6 Premier Kim Yong-il sends a message of sympathy to Manmohan Singh, prime minister of India, over a recent flood that hit southern India, claiming large scale human and material losses.

   7 Kim Yong-nam meets with the Chinese youth friendship delegation led by Lu Hao, first-secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China, at Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   7 Liu Xiaoming, Chinese ambassador to North Korea, gives a reception at his embassy in Pyongyang to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between North Korea and China, attended by O Su-yong, vice premier of the Cabinet and Kang Nung-su, minister of Culture, among others.
