SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea between Oct. 8-14, 2009.

8 Kim Yong-nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA), sends a message of greetings to Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, president of Uganda, on the 47th anniversary of its independence.

   8 North Korean leader Kim Jong-il receives a floral basket and a gift from Mahmoud Abbas, chief of the Palestinian National Authority, on the 64th anniversary of the creation of the Workers' Party of (North) Korea (WPK).

   8 The North's Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) says the 12th national exhibition of scientific and technological achievements in the field of public health was held in Pyongyang on Oct. 1-8.

   8 A national symposium on standardization is held in Pyongyang on Oct. 7-8, attended by officials from the state's Standardization Commission and a representative of the International Organization for Standardization.

   8 A performance is given by the workers' art squad of the Central Committee of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea at the Central Hall of Workers to celebrate the 64th founding anniversary of the WPK.

   8 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il inspected the newly-built North Hwanghae Provincial Art Theater and watched an inaugural art performance given by the provincial art troupe.

   8 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il gave field guidance to the Migok Co-op Farm in Sariwon.

   8 Cuban Ambassador to North Korea Jose Manuel Galego Montano hosts a reception at his embassy on the 64th founding anniversary of the WPK.

   9 A fireworks display is given at the plaza of the Party Founding Memorial Tower in Pyongyang in celebration of the 64th founding anniversary of the WPK.

   10 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il enjoyed a joint performance given by the Unhasu Orchestra, the Mansudae Art Troupe and the Samjiyon Band on the 64th birthday of the WPK.

   10 The Pyongyang Circus gives a joint performance at Pyongyang Circus Theater to celebrate the 64th birthday of the WPK.

   11 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greetings to Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, president of Equatorial Guinea, on the 41st anniversary of its independence.

   11 A performance is given by the Academy Ensemble of the Interior Unit of the Russian Ministry of Interior in Pyongyang to celebrate the 64th birthday of the WPK.

   11 Kim Yong-nam meets with the leading members of the Academy Ensemble of the Russian Ministry of the Interior, led by Chief Viktor Yeliseev at Pyongyang Grand Theater.

   12 Russian Ambassador to North Korea Valery E. Sukhinin hosts a reception at the Taedong River Diplomatic Corps Club on the 61st anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

   12 Palestinian Ambassador to North Korea Ismail Ahmed Mohamed Hasan gives a reception at his embassy on the 64th anniversary of the WPK.

   12 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of sympathy to Choummaly Saynasone, president of Laos, on the massive material and human toll caused by a recent tropical typhoon that hit the Southeast Asian nation.

   13 Reverend Franklin Graham of the United States, president of the non-governmental organization Samaritan's Purse, flies into Pyongyang.

   13 An inter-Korean Buddhist ceremony for national reunification is held at Singye Temple in the North Korean resort mountain of Kumgang on the second anniversary of the restoration of the temple.

   13 Senior officials of the party, army and state watch a concert jointly given by the Unhasu Orchestra, the Mansudae Art Troupe and the Samjiyon Band at East Pyongyang Grand Theater to celebrate the WPK's founding anniversary.

   13 South Korea's Unification Ministry says North Korea accepted Seoul's proposal for talks on preventing floods along the Imjin River zone and resuming reunions of separated families.

   13 A government economic delegation led by Ri Myong-san, minister of foreign trade, leaves Pyongyang for a visit to Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia.

   14 Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun confers with Rev. Franklin Graham at Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   14 Kim Yong-dae, vice president of the SPA Presidium, meets with Rev. Franklin Graham at Mansudae Assembly Hall.
