SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea between Oct. 22-28, 2009.

22 Kim Yong-nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, meets with the visiting delegation of Swiss Commodity Holding AG led by Chief Executive Shanti Sen at Mansudae Assembly Hall in Pyongyang.

   22 The (North) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) says North Korean leader Kim Jong-il gave field guidance to the newly-built September 26 Breeding Pig Farm and October 22 Pig Farm.

   23 Souheil Haidar, charge d'affaires ad interim of the Syrian embassy in Pyongyang, gives a reception at his embassy to mark the 64th anniversary of the founding of the Workers' Party of Korea.

   23 Kim Yong-nam sends a congratulatory message to Rupiah Bwezani Banda, Zambian president, on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of its independence.

   23 Kim Yong-nam sends a congratulatory message to Seretse Khama Ian Khama upon his assumption of the important post of president of Botswana.

   23 Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun sends a congratulatory message to Dr. Raden Mohammad Marty Muliana Natalegawa on his appointment as minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia.

   24 The KCNA says, quoting a decree of the SPA Presidium, Ri Chol-gwang was appointed as North Korean ambassador to Mongolia.

   24 Kim Yong-il, premier of the Cabinet, sends a congratulatory message to Paul Biyoghe Mba on his appointment as prime minister of Gabon.

   24 Pak Ui-chun sends a congratulatory message to Paul Toungui on his stay in office as minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Francophone of Gabon.

   24 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il gave on-site guidance to the work in different units of Huichon, Jagang Province, including the Youth Electric Complex and the Huichon Silk Mill.

   25 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greetings to Heinz Fischer, federal president of Austria, on its national day.

   25 Kim Jong-il gave field guidance to the newly-built Mt. Myohyang Recreation Ground.

   26 Premier Kim Yong-il sends a message of greetings to Ralph Gonsalves, prime minister of Saint Vincent and Grenadines, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of its independence.

   26 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greetings to Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov, president of Turkmenistan, on its national day.

   26 A Syrian government economic delegation led by Minister of Economy and Commerce Amer Hosni Lutfi arrive in Pyongyang.

   26 The troika delegation of the European Union led by Klas Fredrik Molin, deputy director-general for Political Affairs; and head of the Department for Asia and the Pacific of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden fly into Pyongyang to participate in the North Korea-EU political dialogue.

   26 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il watched an art performance given by servicepersons of companies under Korean People's Army (KPA) Units 567, 531, 762 and 630 who participated in the 33rd art festival of KPA servicepersons.

   27 A delegation of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) led by Choe Thae-bok, secretary of its Central Committee, left Pyongyang to visit China.

   27 A delegation of the Mongolian Democratic Women's Union led by Vice-President S. Battsetseg and a group of Japanese local assemblymen demanding the promotion of Japan-Korea friendship led by Seizaburo Eguchi, representative of the Tokyo Ward Assemblymen's Liaison Society for the Promotion of Japan-Korea Friendship, fly into Pyongyang for visits.

   27 The KCNA says a 30-year-old South Korean man identified as Kang Dong-lim defected by crossing the eastern military demarcation line on Oct. 26.

   27 The KCNA says the North has recently convened an enlarged plenary session of the Cabinet to discuss ways to make the ongoing "100-day campaign" to a success.

   27 The Chinese Communist Party arranges a reception in Beijing in honor of the delegation of the North Korean Workers' Party led by Choe Thae-bok.

   27-28 The 6th meeting of the North Korea-Syria Joint Economic Committee is held in Pyongyang, attended by Minister of Foreign Trade Ri Ryong-nam and the Syrian Minister of Economy and Commerce Amer Hosni Lutfi.

   28 North Korea and Syria sign an agreement in Pyongyang on cooperation in public health and medical science, an agreement on cooperation in science and technology, and a MOU on cooperation and exchange in agriculture.
