SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea from Jan. 21-27.

21 Rodong Sinmun says the world's progressive people should recognize the imperialists' vulnerability and inevitable downfall and firmly stand up against their threats and blackmail.

   21 The (North) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reports an inter-Korean working contact for revitalizing the Kaesong Industrial Zone (KIZ) took place in the zone from January 19-21.

   21 Kim Yong-nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, meets with a delegation of lawmakers from various political parties of Italy.

   21 A national meeting is held at the People's Palace of Culture in Pyongyang to commemorate the 85th anniversary of the 1,000-ri journey for national liberation made by President Kim Il-sung and the 35th anniversary of the first study tour to trace its course organized by leader Kim Jong-il.

   22 Kim Yong-nam sends a congratulatory message to Evo Morales Aima, who began his second term as president of Bolivia.

   22 The KCNA reports Kim Jong-il enjoyed a performance given by the State Folk Art Troupe.

   23 Rodong Sinmun says it is important to wage a vigorous struggle against domination in order to realize global independence.

   23 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il provided field guidance at a newly built court, the Central Court, the Pyongyang Flour-Processing Combine and the Ryongsong Foodstuff Factory.

   24 A spokesman for the General Staff of the (North) Korean People's Army (KPA) releases a statement blasting statements made by the South Korean minister of defense on a "preemptive strike."

   25 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il provided field guidance to a pig farm newly built by the Large Combined Unit 567 of the KPA.

   25 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greetings to Pratibha Patil, president of India, for the Republic Day of India.

   25 Premier Kim Yong-il sends a message of greetings to Manmohan Singh, prime minister of India, on the occasion of its Republic Day.

   25 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il provided field guidance to the Pukjung Machine Complex and the Rakwon Machine Complex.

   26 Rodong Sinmun says that struggling for national independence from reliance upon foreign forces is a litmus test that distinguishes reunification from division and patriotism from treachery.

   26 Choe Thae-bok and Kim Ki-nam, secretaries of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of (North) Korea, meet with Chinese Ambassador to the DPRK (North Korea) Liu Xiaoming at the People's Palace of Culture.

   26 A photo exhibition and film screening takes place at the Taedong River Diplomatic Corps Club on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the DPRK and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

   26 A general meeting of the North Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration is held in Pyongyang.

   26 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il gave field guidance to the September General Iron Enterprise and the Tokhyon Mine.

   26 Charan Jeet Arora, Indian charge d' affaires ad interim, hosts a reception on India's Day of the Republic.

   27 The General Staff of the KPA says artillery units staged an annual live shell firing drill in waters off the West Sea.

   27 Kim Yong-nam receives credentials from Poul Oscar Georg Hoiness, ambassador for the Kingdom of Denmark to North Korea, at Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   27 Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun meets with Liu Xiaoming, Chinese ambassador to North Korea.

   27 The KCNA reports that Kim Jong-il inspected roads in North Pyongan Province.
