SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea between Feb. 18-24.

18 The (North) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) says An Kun-song was appointed as DPRK (North Korea) ambassador to Mexico, according to a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA).

   18 The Central Committee of the Workers' Party of (North) Korea (WPK) sends a message of greetings to the 4th congress of the Brazilian Workers' Party.

   18 Valery E. Sukhinin, Russian ambassador to the DPRK, gives a reception at his embassy to celebrate the birthday of leader Kim Jong-il.

   18 Morteza Moradian, Iranian ambassador to the DPRK, hosts a reception at his embassy on the occasion of the birthday of leader Kim Jong-il.

   18 Premier Kim Yong-il sends a congratulatory message to Jean Marie Dore upon his appointment as prime minister of the National Unity Government of Guinea.

   18 Kim Yong-nam, president of the SPA Presidium, sends a congratulatory message to Robert Gabriel Mugabe, president of the Republic of Zimbabwe, on the occasion of his 86th birthday.

   19 Rodong Sinmun reports that leader Kim Jong-il has received tens of thousands of gifts from more than 170 countries on his birthday.

   19 The 14th Kimjongilia Festival, which opened on Feb. 12 on the occasion of leader Kim Jong- il's birthday, ends at the Kimilsungia Kimjongilia Exhibition.

   20 Rodong Sinmun reports that leader Kim Jong-il was presented with gifts by organizations from Russia on the occasion of his birthday.

   20 The KCNA says the U.S. imperialists and the warmongers of the South Korean puppet army are contemplating staging the DPRK-targeted Key Resolve and Foal Eagle joint military exercises across South Korea from March 8 to 18.

   20 The KCNA reports Kim Jong-il provided field guidance to the Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex.

   21 The KCNA says Meetings were held in different provinces to vow to carry through the joint calls issued by the WPK Central Committee and the WPK Central Military Commission in the run-up to the 65th birthday of the WPK.

   21 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il attended a premiere given by the newly-organized Song and Dance Ensemble of the Ministry of People's Security.

   22 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greetings to Bharrat Jagdeo, president of Guyana, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the proclamation of its Cooperative Republic.

   22 The KCNA says the February 8 Vinalon Complex has resumed mass-producing quality vinalon cotton and various chemical goods.

   22 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greetings to Sultan of Brunei Darussalam Haji Hassanal Bolkiah on the occasion of its national day.

   22 Choe Thae-bok meets with Daulat Hotma Audison Passaribu, Indonesia's ambassador to the DPRK, who paid a farewell call on him at the Mansudae Assembly Hall in Pyongyang.

   22 Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun meets with Edward Pietrzyk, new Polish ambassador to the DPRK, who paid a courtesy call on him.

   22 A national meeting of journalists and other media persons takes place in Pyongyang.

   22 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il appreciated a performance given by student art groups of Kimilsung University and other major universities in North Korea.

   22 Daulat Hotma Audison Passaribu, Indonesian ambassador to the DPRK, hosts a reception on the occasion of the birthday of leader Kim Jong-il.

   22 Palestinian Ambassador to the DPRK Ismail Ahmed Mohamed Hasan gives a reception at the embassy in celebration of the birthday of leader Kim Jong-il.

   22 A reception is co-hosted by Valery Sukhinin, Russian ambassador to the DPRK, and Aleksei Bartusov, military attache of the Russian embassy, to mark the "Day of Defenders of the Motherland" at the Taedong River Diplomatic Corps Club.

   23 Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun meets with Daulat Hotma Audison Passaribu, Indonesian ambassador to the DPRK, who paid a farewell call on him.

   23 A delegation of the International Affairs Department of the WPK Central Committee led by its Director Kim Yong-il arrives in Beijing and meets with Chinese President Hu Jintao.

   23 A delegation of the Foreign Ministry of Romania headed by Director General Gheorghe Magheru and a government economic delegation of Vietnam headed by Bui SuanKhu, vice minister of Industry and Commerce, arrive in Pyongyang. Eric Laroche, assistant director-general of the World Health Organization, also flies into Pyongyang.

   24 Kim Yong-nam and Premier Kim Yong-il send a message of greetings to Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, emir of Kuwait, on the occasions of the 49th national day of Kuwait and the 19th anniversary of its liberation, respectively.

   24 Rodong Sinmun says the best way of realizing the reunification of Korea in a reasonable manner is to found a unified state of the nation by federal formula based on one nation with two systems and governments.

   24 Kim Yong-nam meets with a congratulatory group of Koreans in Japan headed by Ri Ki-sok, vice chairman of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan.

   24 Vice Premier O Su-yong and Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun separately converse with a government economic delegation of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam headed by Bui Suan Khu, vice minister of industry and commerce.

   24 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il was presented with a gift by the head of a government economic delegation of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on a visit to the DPRK.
