N. Korea rejects role of U.N. rights rapporteur on it

SEOUL, March 13 (Yonhap) -- North Korea said Saturday it does not recognize the legitimacy the United Nations' special envoy on its human rights, arguing that the system is a U.S. scheme to undermine its prestige.

Under a 2004 U.N. mandate, Vitit Muntarbhorn, a Thai law professor, has been working as a special rapporteur on North Korean human rights. The mandate is due to end at the end of June.
