SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea between March 25-31.

  
March
25 An honorary doctorate of medicine is awarded by the DPRK to Renate Hess, secretary general of the Hans Neuffer Foundation of the German Association of Doctors, with due ceremony at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   25 The Historical Society of the DPRK issues an article to mark the 100th anniversary of An Jung-gun, a patriotic martyr, by the Japanese imperialist hangmen.

   25 A meeting and film show takes place at the Taedonggang Diplomatic Corps Club to mark the 20th anniversary of the formation of the DPRK-Laos Friendship Association and the Laos-DPRK Friendship Association.

   25 The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) says leader Kim Jong-il gave field guidance to the Chonma Electrical Machine Plant and the Taehungsan Machine Plant.

   25 A spokesman for the General Staff of the Korean People's Army warns South Korea and the U.S. against their "desperate moves" to bring down the system in the DPRK.

   25 A delegation of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly led by its Vice-Chairwoman Hong Son-ok leaves Pyongyang to attend the 122nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union to be held in Thailand.

   25 Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun sends a congratulatory message to Kacou Gervais Jean-Marie of Ivory Coast upon his appointment as minister of Foreign Affairs and African Integration.

   26 The KCNA says the State Academy of Sciences of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea recently developed a large electronic display board.

   26 Kim Yong-nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK, sends a message of greetings to Zillur Rahman, president of Bangladesh, on Friday on the occasion of the 39th anniversary of its independence.

   26 Premier Kim Yong-il sends a message of greetings to his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina on the occasion of the 39th anniversary of the independence of Bangladesh.

   26 A meeting and photo exhibition takes place in Pyongyang to mark the 39th anniversary of the independence of Bangladesh.

   27 The KCNA slams the U.S. for its "hideous human rights abuses," branding the U.S. human rights "racket" as a "poor artifice to cover up its poorest human rights records."

   27 Rodong Sinmun reports that works by leader Kim Jong-il were published in different countries and that a preparatory committee for commemorating the Day of the Sun was inaugurated in Italy.

   27 A delegation of the DPRK Olympic Committee, headed by vice-chairman Jong In-chol, leaves Pyongyang for Kazakhstan to participate in a meeting of team heads in preparation for the seventh Winter Asian Games to be held there.

   27 Kim Yong-nam leaves Pyongyang to pay official goodwill visits to Gabon, Gambia and Senegal.

   27 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il enjoyed a performance given by the State Symphony Orchestra.

   28 Rodong Sinmun says Japan "should pay for its past crimes committed by colonizing Korea and directly participating in the last Korean war."

   29 A spokesman for the Panmunjom Mission of the Korean People's Army accuses the South Korean military of staging anti-DPRK "psychological warfare" in the Demilitarized Zone.

   29 A North Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman refutes an "anti-DPRK resolution" adopted at the meeting of the UN Human Rights Council.

   29 The KCNA says brisk preparations for a new school year are going on in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

   29 An annual meeting of the DPRK Olympic Committee takes place at the People's Palace of Culture.

   29 Pak Ui-chun meets with Arif Mahmood, new Pakistani ambassador to the DPRK, who paid a courtesy call on him.

   29 Three foreign delegations, including a delegation of the Global Steel Holdings Limited of India led by Chairman Pramod Mittal, fly into Pyongyang.

   29 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il met with Liu Hongcai, new Chinese ambassador to the DPRK.

   30 The KCNA says a new material to be used in bearings has been developed "on the basis of advanced technology to be widely used in economic sectors."

   30 Crowds gather to commemorate Nirvana Day, 2554 Buddhist Era, are held at temples in the northern half of North Korea.

   30 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of sympathy to Dmitri Anatolievich Medvedev, president of Russia, regarding terrorist bombings aboard the Moscow metro.

   30 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il was presented with a gift by Pramod Mittal, chairman of the Global Steel Holdings Limited of India, during his visit to the DPRK.

   30 Ri Yong-ho, chief of the General Staff of the Korean People's Army, meets with Liu Hongcai, who paid a courtesy call on him.

   30 Pak Ui-chun sends a congratulatory message to Utoni Nujoma on his appointment as foreign minister of Namibia.

   31 The KCNA says the University Student Scientific Research Prize is awarded to more than 700 exemplary students in the DPRK.

   31 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il received 22 animals, including an African lion, as gifts from the Kuwaiti Zoo.

   31 A national meeting of scientists and technicians is held at the People's Palace of Culture.
