SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea from April 22-28.

  
April
22 A 2010-2012 plan for cultural and scientific exchanges between the governments of the DPRK (North Korea) and Iran is signed in Pyongyang.

   22 The (North) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) says a program for the early diagnosis and treatment of liver cancer is going well at Pyongyang Municipal People's Hospital No. 1.

   22 Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun meets with a delegation of the Foreign Ministry of Iran led by Vice Minister Mohammad Ali Fathollahi.

   22 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il was presented with a gift by Gombojab Zandanshatar, minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Mongolia, on a visit to the DPRK.

   22 Morteza Moradian, Iranian ambassador to the DPRK, gives a reception at the embassy to commemorate the Day of the Sun and the 17th anniversary of Kim Jong-il's election as chairman of the National Defense Commission.

   22 Gombojab Zandanshatar, minister of foreign affairs and trade of Mongolia, and his party leave Pyongyang.

   22 The 17th national festival of school youth and children to vow loyalty is closed with due ceremony at the Central Youth Hall in Pyongyang.

   22 Kim Yong-nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK, meets with Gombojab Zandanshatar, minister of foreign affairs and trade of Mongolia, and his party at the Mansudae Assembly Hall in Pyongyang.

   22 The KCNA reports Kim Jong-il toured the Kaeson Youth Park, which was reconstructed into a people's recreation ground on the occasion of April 25, the anniversary of the foundation of the Korean People's Army (KPA).

   23 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il issues order 0046 on raising the military ranks of commanding officers of the KPA.

   23 Kim Jong-il is presented with a gift by Mohammad Ali Fathollahi, vice minister of foreign affairs of Iran, who is heading the visiting ministry delegation.

   23 A spokesman for the General Guidance Bureau for the Development of Scenic Spots of the DPRK issues second-phase measures to freeze South Korean real estate in the Mt. Kumgang tourist zone.

   23 Rodong Sinmun says the present regime of South Korea veiled with the word "pragmatism" is harmful to national reunification.

   23 The delegation of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces visits the Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery on Mount Taesong.

   23 Kim Yong-nam meets with the delegation of the Foreign Ministry of Iran led by Vice Minister Mohammad Ali Fathollahi.

   23 The economic and commercial councilors corps in Pyongyang visits the U.S. imperialist armed spy ship "Pueblo" on the occasion of the 78th birthday of the heroic KPA.

   23 The KCNA says President Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il were presented with gifts by a delegation of the University of Damascus of Syria on the occasion of the Day of the Sun.

   23 Kim Yong-nam meets with the delegation of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces led by Alvaro Lopez Miera, vice-minister of Revolutionary Armed Forces.

   23 The military attaches corps in Pyongyang visits the Mangyongdae Revolutionary School on the occasion of the 78th birthday of the KPA.

   23 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greetings to Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, president of Tanzania, on the occasion of the 46th birthday of the United Republic of Tanzania.

   24 The KCNA reports Pyongyang is decked out in gala attire with the approach of the April 25 anniversary of the KPA.

   24 Kim Jong-il is presented with a floral basket and a congratulatory letter by the military attaches corps in Pyongyang on the occasion of the 78th birthday of the KPA.

   24 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il watches the military training of soldiers of KPA Unit 115, which is honored with the title of the O Jung-hup-led Seventh Regiment, on the occasion of the 78th birthday of the KPA.

   24 A national meeting celebrating the 78th birthday of the Korean People's Army is held at the April 25 House of Culture in Pyongyang.

   24 The KPA Song and Dance Ensemble gives a performance at the April 25 House of Culture to celebrate the 78th birthday of the KPA.

   24 The Ministry of the People's Armed Forces gives a reception for the military attaches corps in Pyongyang on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the founding of the KPA.

   25 Rodong Sinmun dedicates an editorial to the 78th anniversary of the founding of the KPA.

   25 Wreaths are placed before the Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery on Mount Taesong and the Patriotic Martyrs Cemetery, and floral baskets before the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Memorial Tower on the 78th birthday of the KPA.

   25 Servicepersons, people from all walks of life, and school youth and children lay floral baskets before statues of President Kim Il-sung on the occasion of the KPA's 78th birthday.

   25 A delegation of the Stockholm Institute for Security and Development Policy of Sweden led by Director Niklas Swanstrom arrives in Pyongyang.

   25 The KCNA reports Kim Jong-il visited the command of KPA Unit 586 and congratulated servicepersons there on the occasion of the 78th birthday of the KPA.

   25 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il was presented with a floral basket by a delegation of the Liaoning Association for International Friendly Contact of China on a visit to the DPRK on the occasion of the KPA's 78th birthday.

   25 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il enjoyed a concert given by the State Merited Chorus on Army Day on the occasion of the KPA's 78th founding anniversary.

   26 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greetings to Ernest Bai Koroma, president of Sierra Leone, on the occasion of the 49th anniversary of its independence. He also sends a message of greetings to Faure Essozimna Gnassingbe, president of Togo, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of its independence.

   26 Francisco L. Benedicto, Philippine ambassador to the DPRK, presents his credentials to Kim Yong-nam at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   26 Pak Ui-chun has a talk with Francisco L. Benedicto, the Philippine ambassador newly accredited to the DPRK, who paid a courtesy call on him.

   26 The 25th central festival of science and technology opens with due ceremony at the Three-Revolution Exhibition in Pyongyang.

   26 Margaret Chan, director-general of the World Health Organization, and other foreign guests fly into Pyongyang.

   26 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il sent a wreath to the bier of Ri Yong-chol, a member of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, expressing deep condolences over his death.

   26 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il enjoyed the light comedy "Echo of Mountain" newly created by the State Theatrical Troupe.

   27 Cuban Ambassador to the DPRK Jose Manuel Galego Montano gives a reception at his embassy on the occasion of the Day of the Sun.

   27 The KCNA says the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (RCC) has been established under the Maritime Administration of the DPRK.

   27 Kim Yong-nam receives credentials from Earle Courtenay Rattray, Jamaican ambassador to the DPRK, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   27 A delegation of the Pakistani preparatory committee for commemorating the centenary of birth of President Kim Il-sung, headed by Advisor to the Committee Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, speaker of the Assembly of Sind State, flies into Pyongyang.

   27 Pak Ui-chun separately meets with Margaret Chan, director-general of the World Health Organization, and her party and Earle Courtenay Rattray, the new Jamaican ambassador to the DPRK.

   27 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il was presented with a gift by the "Orchestra of the 21st Century" of Russia on a visit to the DPRK.

   27 The operation of an online medical service system, which was established among Kimmanyu Hospital in Pyongyang and different provincial people's hospitals, begins with due ceremony at Kimmanyu Hospital.

   28 Yang Hyong-sop, vice president of the SPA Presidium, meets with a visiting Ugandan government delegation.

   28 Pak Ui-chun meets with Pratap Singh, new Indian ambassador to the DPRK, who paid a courtesy call on him.

   28 Kim Yong-nam meets with Margaret Chan, director-general of the WHO, and Massimo Barra, chairman of the Standing Commission of the Red Cross and Red Crescent.

   28 Kim Jung-rin, secretary of the WPK Central Committee and deputy to the SPA, dies of a heart attack at the age of 86.

   28 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il enjoyed a performance given by a Russian orchestra visiting the DPRK.
