SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea from May 5 to 12.

6 A meeting takes place at the Indonesian embassy in Pyongyang to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Kim Jong-il's first visit to Indonesia, the (North) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reports.

   7 The KCNA confirms that North Korean leader Kim Jong-il paid an unofficial visit to the People's Republic of China (PRC) at the invitation of Hu Jintao, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and President of the PRC, from May 3 to 7.

   7 Kim Jong-il sends a message of thanks to Hu Jintao after wrapping up his visit to China.

   7 The KCNA says the 13th Pyongyang Spring International Trade Fair will take place at the Three-Revolution Exhibition Hall in Pyongyang from May 17 to 20.

   7 Kim Yong-nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA), sends a message of condolences to Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, president of Nigeria, over the death of Alhaji Umaru Musa Yaradua, its former president.

   7 Senior officials visit the Nigerian embassy in Pyongyang to mourn the death of former president of Nigeria. They include Yang Hyong-sop, vice president of the SPA Presidium, and Pak Ui-chun, minister of foreign affairs.

   7 The Russian ambassador to the DPRK (North Korea) hosts a reception on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of Russia's victory in the Great Patriotic War. Those attending include Kung Sok-ung, vice minister of Foreign Affairs, O Ryong-chol, vice minister of Foreign Trade.

   7 The KCNA says the 10th May 21 architectural festival took place in Pyongyang from May 4 to 7.

   8 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il appreciated the light comedy "Echo of Mountain," winner of the Kim Il-sung Prize.

   8 The DPRK men's football team, led by Kim Jang-san, vice chairman of the (North) Korean Physical Culture and Sports Guidance Commission, leaves Pyongyang to participate in the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

   8 The KCNA says a North Korean art exhibition opened with due ceremony at the Asian House Exhibition in Barcelona, Spain on April 26.

   9 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greetings to Dmitri Medvedev, president of the Russian Federation, on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of its victory in the second World War.

   10 The KCNA says the WPK Publishing House released Vol. 88 of "Among the People," a collection of reminiscences.

   10 The KCNA says preparations for rice-transplanting have been under way in the DPRK.

   10 The KCNA says a (North) Korean book, photo and handicraft exhibition was opened with due ceremony in Russia on April 29 on the occasion of the 78th founding anniversary of the (North) Korean People's Army (KPA).

   10-12 The 14th national book report competition among publication distributors takes place in Pyongyang.

   11 A Swiss women's delegation headed by Haag Carmen, chairperson of the Christian Democratic People's Party group of the Thurgau canton parliament, arrives in Pyongyang.

   11 The KCNA says that rice seeds have been planted in cold-beds on all farms across North Korea.

   12 The KCNA says North Korean scientists succeeded in creating a nuclear fusion reaction on the significant occasion of the Day of the Sun -- the birthday of late North Korean founder Kim Il-sung -- this year.

   12 The KCNA says the 60th plenary meeting of the Central Committee of the Union of Agricultural Workers of (North) Korea took place in Pyongyang on May 6. The meeting elects Ri Myong-gil as its new chairman, replacing Kang Chang-uk.

   12 Choe Thae-bok, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of (North) Korea, has talks with Pratap Singh, new Indian ambassador to the DPRK, who paid a courtesy call on him.
