SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea from May 31-June 6, 2012.

  
May
31 Choe Ryong-hae, a member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Workers' Party of (North) Korea (WPK) and director of the General Political Bureau of the (North) Korean People's Army (KPA), makes a field survey of the construction of the Pyongyang Falk Park undertaken by the KPA as it nears completion.

   31 A delegation of the Ministry of Railways led by Minister Jon Kil-su leaves Pyongyang to take part in the 40th ministerial meeting of the Organization of Railways Cooperation to be held in Azerbaijan.

   31 An event takes place at the People's Palace of Culture to mark World No Tobacco Day.

   31 A reception hosted by Chinese Ambassador to North Korea Liu Hongcai is held at the Chinese embassy in Pyongyang in memory of leader Kim Jong-il's visits to China in 2010 and 2012.

1 North Korean leader Kim Jong-un sends a congratulatory message to Raul Castro Ruz, the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the Council of State, on his birthday.

   1 Kim Yong-nam, the president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA), sends a message of greeting to Giorgio Napolitano, the Italian president, on the occasion of its national day.

   1 Premier Choe Yong-rim makes a field survey of the Children's Department Store in Pyongyang.

   1 A joint friendship gathering takes place at the Mount Taesong Pleasure Ground to mark the 62nd International Children's Day, with Choe Thae-bok, the secretary of the WPK, and Vice President of the SPA Presidium Yang Hyong-sop attending.

   1 The KCNA says delegates to the celebrations of the 66th anniversary of the (North) Korean Children's Union (KCU) are coming to Pyongyang by air, train and bus that are being specially provided under the loving care of the WPK.

   2 Kim Jong-un sends a congratulatory message to Choummaly Sayasone, the general secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and Lao president, on his 76th birthday.

   2 A delegation led by Vice Minister of Public Health Kim Myong-chol flies back home after taking part in the 65th general assembly of the World Health Organization in Switzerland.

   2 A ceremony for awarding delegate certificates to 20,000 participants in the celebrations of the 66th anniversary of the KCU takes place at the April 25 Hotel in Pyongyang.

   2 The KCNA says most areas of the DPRK (North Korea), except its northern inland region, have been suffering from persistent severe drought from late April.

   4 Kim Yong-nam meets with Blaise Godet, the Swiss ambassador to the DPRK, who paid a farewell call on him, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall in Pyongyang.

   4 The General Staff of the KPA says its military has entered the map coordinates of some conservative South Korean media offices as it threatened to strike their headquarters for their alleged insult to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

   4 Johannes Plug, a member of the Budestag Federal Parliament of Germany from the Social-Democratic Pary, arrives in Pyongyang.

   4 The DPRK government gives a banquet in honor of Hor Nam Hong, the deputy prime minister of Cambodia and its foreign minister, with Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun attending.

   5 Kim Yong-nam receives credentials from Gonzalo Alfonso Gutierrez Reinel, the Peruvian ambassador to the DPRK, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   5 Choe Thae-bok has a talk with the delegation of the All-China Women's Federation led by Zhen Yan, the vice chairwoman and member of the Secretariat of the Federation, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   5 Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun has talks with Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Nam Hong at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   5 A delegation of the WPK led by Kim Yong-il, an alternate member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK, leaves Pyongyang to visit Laos, Vietnam and Myanmar.

   5 The KCNA says Kaesong Schoolchildren's Palace has been renovated in the North.

   6 A joint national meeting of the KCU organizations is held at Kim Il-sung Stadium in Pyongyang to celebrate the 66th KCU anniversary in the presence of Kim Jong-un. In the meeting, Kim Jong-un makes a congratulatory speech.

   6 John Daniszewski, vice president of the AP, arrives in Pyongyang by air.

   6 Hor Nam Hong, deputy prime minister, leaves Pyongyang for home.
