SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea from July 26-August 1, 2012.

  
July
26 A delegation from the Russian Railways Company led by senior vice president Valery Reshetnikov leaves Pyongyang, winding up its visit to North Korea.

   26 Kim Yong-nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA), sends a message of greeting to Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, president of Liberia, on the country's independence day.

   26 Premier Choe Yong-rim sends a congratulatory message to Jaber Al Mubarak Al Hamad Al Sabah upon his reappointment as prime minister of Kuwait.

   26 Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun meets with a Lao government economic delegation headed by Siaosavath Savengsuksa, vice minister of Industry and Commerce, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall in Pyongyang. He also meets with outgoing Bijaya Rajbhandari, the representative of UNICEF in Pyongyang.

   26 A national exhibition of 206 varieties of daily necessities closes at the Pyongyang Railway Station Department Store after a four-day run starting on July 23.

   26 The (North) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) says the 2012 Pyongyang Machinery Exhibition will be held at the Three Revolution Exhibition in Pyongyang from August 6-9.

   26 The KCNA says North Korean leader Kim Jong-un received a congratulatory message from Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on July 24.
26 Delegations of war veterans arrive in Pyongyang to take part in celebrations to mark the 59th anniversary of the conclusion of a truce agreement suspending the 1950-53 Korean War on July 27, 1953.
26 An oath-taking meeting of service members of the (North) Korean People's Army (KPA) is held before the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Memorial Tower in Pyongyang on the 59th anniversary of the signing of an armistice agreement suspending the Korean War, which falls on July 27. North Korea calls the Korean War the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War.

   26 North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and his wife Ri Sol-ju enjoy a performance of the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Korean People's Internal Security Forces at Ponghwa Art Theatre in Pyongyang.

   26 North Korean leader Kim Jong-un visits the construction site of the Ryugyong Health Complex and People's Open-Air Ice Rink in Pyongyang as it nears completion.

   27 Delegates from the North Korean and Lao governments sign minutes of the second meeting of an inter-governmental joint committee for economic, trade, scientific and technological cooperation in Pyongyang.

   27 War veterans, invited to the celebrations of the 59th anniversary of the conclusion of a truce agreement suspending the Korean War, receive delegate certificates.

   27 The KCNA says Rungna Islet in the Taedong River running through the capital city of Pyongyang has taken on a new look as an amusement park.

   27 The Lao government economic delegation headed by Siaosavath Savengsuksa, vice-minister of Industry and Commerce, leaves Pyongyang, ending its visit to North Korea.

   27 The KCNA says festive events were held across North Korea on the 59th anniversary of the signing of an armistice agreement suspending the Korean War.

   28 A delegation from the Ministry of People's Security headed by Minister Ri Myong-su returns home, wrapping up its visit to China.

   28 The KCNA says floods caused by a typhoon and torrential downpours from July 18 through 24 caused a lot of human and material losses.

   29 A spokesman for the National Defence Commission (NDC) of North Korea issues a statement demanding an apology from South Korea over what it called state-sponsored terrorism against its leadership, a strong accusation that has been repeatedly dismissed by the South.

   29 The Central Committee of the Workers' Party of (North) Korea (WPK) hosts a reception at Pyongyang Koryo Hotel in honor of Ricardo Alemao Abreu, the international relations secretary of the Central Committee of the Brazilian Communist Party (BCP), who is visiting North Korea.

   30 The KCNA says Kim Yong-nam, president of the SPA Presidium, will soon pay official goodwill visits to Vietnam and Laos at the invitation of Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang and Laotian President Choummaly Sayasone.

   30 A group for the performance of revolutionary opera "The Flower Girl" returns home, wrapping up its visit to China.

   30 North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has a photo session with war veteran delegates at celebrations of the 59th anniversary of the conclusion of an armistice agreement suspending the Korean War. They were invited to Pyongyang.

   30 A delegation of the International Liaison Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) led by its head Wang Jiarui arrives in Pyongyang.

   30 Talks between the delegations of the International Affairs Department of the Central Comitte of WPK and the International Liaison Department of the Central Committee of the CPC are held in Pyongyang.

   30 The International Affairs Department of the WPK Central Commitee hosts a reception to honor a delegation of the International Liaison Department of the CPC Central Committee.

   30 The KCNA says North Korean leader Kim Jong-un sent gifts to war veteran delegates at celebrations of the 59th anniversary of the conclusion of an armistice agreement that suspended the Korean War.

   30 North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and with his wife Ri Sol-ju watche a performance staged by the Moranbong Band.

   30 North Korean weight-lifter Kim Un-guk sets a new world record and wins a gold medal in the men's 62-kg category at the London Olympics.

   30 Premier Choe Yong-rim visits Songchon County of South Phyongan Province to inspect the state of rehabilitation after recent flood damage.

   31 A delegation from KimIlsung University headed by Song Ja-rip, president of the university, leaves Pyongyang to visit China and Vietnam.

   31 A friendship delegation from the General Bureau of Diplomatic Corps Affairs led by general director Mun Song-mo returns home, wrapping up visits to China and Laos.

1 Female weightlifter Rim Jong-sim wins a gold medal in the women's 69-kg category at the London Olympics with a total of 261 kg.

   1 The Arirang Festival, a massive dance and gymnastics extravaganza, opens at the May Day Stadium in Pyongyang.

   1 War veteran delegates who participated in the festivities to celebrate the 59th anniversary of the conclusion of an armistice agreement that suspended the 1950-53 Korean War leave Pyongyang.
