SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea from September 13-19, 2012.

13 Minju Joson denounces the "basic plan for national defense policy" recently announced by the south Korean authorities as a DPRK (North Korea) targeted war scenario that calls for reorganizing the military's structure in an offensive way and equipping it with the latest war weaponry, thus laying the groundwork for doing harm to fellow countrymen.

   13 Yang Hyong-sop, the vice president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA), meets with a Chinese youth friendship delegation headed by Wang Hongyan, a member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall in Pyongyang when it paid a courtesy call on him.

   13 Cuban Ambassador to the DPRK German Hermin Ferras Alvarez hosts a reception at his embassy to celebrate the 64th anniversary of the DPRK.

   13 Kim Yong-nam, the president of the SPA Presidium, receives credentials from Nigerian Ambassador to the DPRK Nwofe Alexander at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   14 Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun sends a congratulatory message to Mourad Medelci upon his reappointment as foreign minister of Algeria.

   14 The 9th national folk games of agricultural workers closes after ending a 3-day run starting on Sept. 12 to celebrate the 64th founding anniversary of the DPRK.

   14 A national floricultural show opens with due ceremony at the April 15 Children's Flower Garden.

   14 The 10th National Ssirum (Korean wrestling) Tournament for the Grand Bull Prize begins on Rungna Islet in Pyongyang.

   15 A groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the management board for the Hwanggumphyong Economic Zone, to be jointly developed and run by the DPRK and China, takes place on Hwanggumphyong Islet.

   15 A delegation from the State Academy of Sciences led by Vice President Ri Chol-jin leaves Pyongyang to take part in the 12th World Conference of Academies of Sciences of Developing Countries to be held in China.

   15 A delegation from the Red Cross Society led by Paek Yong-ho, the vice chairman of its Central Committee, returns home after participating in meetings of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in China.

   15 Youth and students in Pyongyang start a study tour of the Oun Revolutionary Site on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of leader Kim Jong-il's guidance to military camping exercises of students of Kim Il-sung University.

   16 North Korean leader Kim Jong-un attends a mass gymnastic and artistic performance of "Arirang," the winner of the Kim Il-sung Prize, together with Pyongyang citizens.

   16 Rodong Sinmun says in a bylined article that the U.S. attempted to use nuclear weapons against the Korean people several times during the Korean War.

   16 Kim Yong-nam, president of the SPA Presidium, sends a message of greeting to Mexican President Felipe Calderon on the occasion of the 202nd anniversary of its independence.

   17 The KCNA says North Korea has recently established an all-round maritime conservation system in Nampho City.

   17 The KCNA says North Korea-Japan relations entirely depend on Japan's attitude in a commentary marking the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration.

   17 The KCNA says U.S. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney blustered that if he is elected president, he will settle the "nuclear issue of North Korea" through harsh sanctions, blockades, isolation and pressure.

   17 Premier Choe Yong-rim inspects various places in Hoeryong City in North Hamgyong Province to learn about the work of various sectors in the city.

   17 The KCNA says the second regular meeting of the Kanagawa Prefectural Citizen's Society for Promoting the Normalization of Japan-DPRK Diplomatic Relations was held at Yokohama City on Sept. 8 to mark the 10th anniversary of the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration.

   17 The KCNA says preparations for the 13th Pyongyang International Film Festival, slated for Sept. 20-27, have been finished. Feature, documentary, short and children's films from different countries will be shown at theatres and cinemas in the city.

   18 A military delegation of the (North) Korean People's Army (KPA) led by Kang Phyo-yong, the vice minister of the People's Armed Forces, returns home after visiting Indonesia.

   18 Kim Yong-nam receives credentials from Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the DPRK Abdulla Khalfan Mater Al Romaithi at Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   18 An agreement on settling the debt incurred by loans provided by the former Soviet Union that the DPRK owes to the Russian Federation was signed between the governments of the two countries in Moscow.

   18 Minju Joson says the U.S. is still pursuing its world domination strategy by nuclear weapons and that the "plan for a world without nuclear weapons" declared to the world was an empty statement to deceive the international community.

   18 The KCNA says Scientists of the Institute for Botany Protection under the Academy of Agricultural Science have developed a new type of saturant raising the efficacy of agrochemicals.

   19 The 10th National Korean Dress Exhibition opens at the Central Youth Hall in Pyongyang.

   19 The KCNA says the Pyongyang-Yanbian Friendship Library opened with due ceremony in Yanbian Korean Nationality Autonomous Prefecture in China on Sept. 6, to mark the 64th founding anniversary of the DPRK.

   19 Kim Yong-nam receives credentials from Patrick John Rata, the New Zealand ambassador to North Korea, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   19 The 10th national Korean dress exhibition opens in Pyongyang. It features a workshop on the design and process of making Korean and seasonal dresses as well as technological books on garments and a multi-media show.

   19 Pak Kwang-chol is appointed the DPRK ambassador to the Kingdom of Sweden by decree of the SPA Presidium.

   19 Delegations and delegates from Sweden, UK, China and Hong Kong, China, arrive in Pyongyang for the 13th Pyongyang International Film Festival.
