SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea from Sept. 27-Oct. 3, 2012.

  September
   27 The 31st Yun I-sang concert opens at the Yun I-sang Concert Hall in Pyongyang for a three-day run until Sept. 29.

   27 Chinese Ambassador to the DPRK (North Korea) Liu Hongcai gives a reception at Okryu Restaurant in Pyongyang to mark the 63rd anniversary of the People's Republic of China.

   27 The 13th Pyongyang International Film Festival closes with due ceremony at the East Pyongyang Grand Theater starting from Sept. 20.

   27 The Cabinet hosts a reception for the participants in the 13th Pyongyang International Film Festival at the People's Palace of Culture in Pyongyang to mark its conclusion.

   27 Kim Yong-nam, the president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA), receives credentials from Mohammad Saleh Al-Thuwaikh, the ambassador of Kuwait to the DPRK, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall in Pyongyang.

   27 Rodong Sinmun calls on all officials, party members and other working people to spruce up their counties and villages as a land of bliss under socialism and a cradle of happiness by fully embodying the spirit of the Changsong Joint Conference.

   28 Kim Yong-nam meets with British Ambassador to the DPRK Karen Suzanne Wolstenholme who paid a farewell call on him at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   28 Rodong Sinmun denounces moves of U.S. and Japan to tighten their military alliance, claiming that "tension remains high on the Korean Peninsula and the situation has not been improved in the Asia-Pacific region entirely because the U.S. and Japanese reactionaries are keen to tighten their political and military nexus."

   28 Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun meets with new Kuwaiti Ambassador to the DPRK Mohammad Saleh Al-Thuwaikh who paid a courtesy call on him.

   28 Yang Hyong-sop, the vice president of the SPA Presidium, meets with Minister of Youth and Sports Affairs of Indonesia Andi Alifian Mallarangeng at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   28 A North Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman denounced the United States for pressurizing Myanmar to break off relations with North Korea.

   28 The Central Committee of the Workers' Party of (North) Korea (WPK) hosts a reception for a visiting delegation of the Party for Thailand at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   28 Delegations of the WPK and the Party for Thailand hold talks in Pyongyang.

   29 North Korean leader Kim Jong-un sends lots of books and data to the Grand People's Study House in Pyongyang to make it a huge library of the country and a worldwide scientific and technological database.

   29 Tian Baozhen, the consul general of China to Chongjin, North Hamgyong Province, hosts a reception to mark the 63rd founding birthday of China.

   29 Premier Choe Yong-rim makes a field survey of the Phyongsong Synthetic Leather Factory, located in South Phyongan Province.

   29 North Korean football team advances to the quarterfinal of the 2012 U-17 Women's World Cup after drawing with the United States 1:1.

   30 Kim Jong-un sends wreaths to the Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery on Mt. Taesong and the Patriotic Martyrs Cemetery on Chuseok, the Korean harvest holiday.

   30 Kim Jong-un, together with Kim Yong-nam, the president of the SPA Presidium, and Premier Choe Yong-rim sends a message to Chinese President Hu Jintao; Wu Bangguo, the chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress; and Wen Jiabao, the premier of the State Council, on the occasion of the 63rd founding anniversary of China.

   30 An agreement on establishing sister relations between Haeju City of the DPRK and Ulan-Ude City, Republic of Buryatia of Russia is signed in Haeju City, South Hwanghae Province.

1 Rodong Sinmun denounces South Korea-U.S. "mutual defense treaty," claiming that it is "a criminal one for aggression as it allowed the U.S. imperialist aggression forces to stay in South Korea for an indefinite period and provided the U.S. with a legal foundation for launching an all-out armed aggression against the DPRK together with South Korea any time."

   1 Kim Yong-nam meets with the delegation of the Party for Thailand led by Deputy Leader Kanawat Wasinsungworn at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   1 Colorful events take place in Pyongyang to celebrate the International Day of Old Persons.

   1 Nigerian Ambassador to the DPRK Nwofe Alexander hosts a reception to mark the 52nd anniversary of the independence of Nigeria.

   1 Kim Yong-nam, president of the SPA Presidium, holds talks with a delegation from the Pheu Thai Party (For Thais Party) led by Deputy Leader Kanawat Wasinsungworn at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   2 Kim Yong-nam receives credentials from Karl-Olof Andersson, the new Swedish ambassador to the DPRK, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   2 Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun and Inoke Kubuabola, minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Fiji, hold talks at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   2 The (North) Korean Central Broadcasting Station says a statue of late leader Kim Jong-il has been erected at the building of the State Security Ministry in Pyongyang.

   3 A new sports village is dedicated on Yanggak Islet in the picturesque Taedong River in a ceremony of completion.

   3 The 13th national program exhibition in the educational field opens with due ceremony at the Three-Revolution Exhibition in Pyongyang.

   3 Kim Yong-nam meets with Inoke Kubuabola, minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Fiji, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   3 A delegation from the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture led by Vice Minister Niu Dun, a delegation from the Federal Emigration Bureau of Russia headed by Deputy Director Anatoli Kuznetsov, and Ahmat Lutfi Akar, president of the Turkish Red Crescent, arrive in Pyongyang.
