SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea from December 13-19, 2012.

13 DPRK doctorate of philology is conferred upon three teachers of Yanbian University of China in a ceremony at the Mansudae Assembly Hall in Pyongyang.

   13 Members of the women's union meet at the plaza of the Tower of the Juche idea to faithfully uphold the idea and leadership of Kim Jong-un, true to the behests of leader Kim Jong-il.

   14 Hundreds of thousands of North Koreans gather at Kim Il-sung Square in Pyongyang to hail the successful launch of the second version of satellite Kwangmyongsong-3.

   14 Premier Choe Yong-rim conducts field surveys of various factories in Pyongyang.

   14 The State Stamp Bureau issues stamps (two sheets) to commemorate the first anniversary of the demise of leader Kim Jong-il on Dec. 17.

   15 Scientists, technicians, workers and officials of the Sohae Space Center arrive in Pyongyang by special train to take part in the memorial service for the first anniversary of demise of leader Kim Jong-il and visit Pyongyang.

   15 Rodong Sinmun in an editorial hails the successful launch of the second version of satellite Kwangmyongsong-3.

   16 A national memorial service takes place in Pyongyang to mark the first anniversary of demise of leader Kim Jong-il, with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in attendance.

   16 Kim Yong-nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA), sends a message of greeting to Nursultan Nazarbayev, president of Kazakhstan, on its national day.

   16 The fourth part of the documentary film, "The Great Leader Comrade Kim Jong-il Will Live Forever," is shown at the People's Palace of Culture in Pyongyang to mark the first anniversary of his demise.

   16 A delegation of the Federation of Korean National Economic Workers in Shenyang, China, headed by Chairman Ri Song Guk arrives in Pyongyang to participate in the memorial service marking the first anniversary of the demise of Kim Jong-il.

   17 An inaugural ceremony of the renovated Kumsusan Palace of the Sun in Pyongyang is held, with Kim Jong-un and his wife Ri Sol-ju in attendance.

   17 All People in North Korea observe three minutes of silence for Kim Jong-il at noon.

   17 The (North) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) says Kim Jun-gap, DPRK ambassador to Cape Verde, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister of Cape Verde Jose Maria Neves who is also chairman of the African Party for Independence of Cape Verde, on Dec. 7.

   17 Liu Yunshan, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau and member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), visits the DPRK embassy in Beijing on the first anniversary of demise of leader Kim Jong-il.

   18 The KCNA says soldiers of the Ground, Navy and Air and Anti-Air Forces of the (North) Korean People's Army (KPA) meet at the plaza of the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun on Dec. 17 to pay high tributes to Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il and renew their pledge to be faithful to Kim Jong-un.

   18 Premier Choe Yong-rim sends a message of greeting to Prime Minister of Qatar Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jaber Al-Thani on Qatar's independence day.

   18 The State Stamp Bureau issued a new stamp to mark the 95th birth anniversary of anti-Japanese war hero Kim Jong-suk, slated for on Dec. 24.

   18 Kim Jong-un receives a message from Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad on Dec. 17 on the first death anniversary of Kim Jong-il.

   18 Kim Yong-nam sends a congratulatory message to Borut Pahor on his election as president of Slovenia.

   18 A reception is given at the People's Palace of Culture to comfort families of overseas Koreans and foreigners related to revolutionary activities of President Kim Il-sung and leader Kim Jong-il under the care of the dear respected Kim Jong-un.

   18 Army-people rallies took place in South Phyongan, North Hwanghae and North Hamgyong Provinces and Nampho City to hail the successful launch of the second version of satellite Kwangmyongsong-3.
19 A table-tennis tournament of officials from committees and commissions, ministries and national institutions begins in Pyongyang.

   19 More army-people rallies take place in South Hwanghae, Kangwon and Ryanggang Provinces and Rason City to hail the successful launch of satellite Kwangmyongsong 3-2.

   19 The KCNA denounces South Korea's ruling Saenuri Party for becoming more blatant in its moves to escalate the confrontation with compatriots in the North.
