SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea from Feb. 21-27, 2013.

  
February
21 The (North) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) says papers in the DPRK (North Korea) carry an editorial in praise of the scientists, technicians, workers, soldier-builders and officials who made contributions to carrying out the third underground nuclear test.

   21 Minju Joson, organ of the Cabinet, denounces S. Korean Defense Minister Kim Kwan-jin "for reckless remarks," saying that the minister "is getting frantic with the moves to ignite a war against the north, letting loose a spate of reckless remarks."

   21 A delegation of the Workers' Party of (North) Korea (WPK) headed by Ri Yong-chol, vice department director of the WPK Central Committee, leaves for Russia to attend the 15th Congress of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation.

   21 The scientists, technicians, workers, soldier-builders and officials who contributed to the third underground nuclear test visit the Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery on Mt. Taesong in Pyongyang.

   21 The 17th Kimjongilia Festival closes with due ceremony at the Kimilsungia-Kimjongilia Exhibition in Pyongyang. It opened on Feb. 14 to mark the birth anniversary of late leader Kim Jong-il.

   21 Premier Choe Yong-rim makes a field survey of the site of the large Cemetery of Fallen Fighters of the (North) Korean People's Army (KPA) now under construction to mark the 60th anniversary of the victory in the Fatherland Liberation War.

   21 The WPK Central Military Commission and the National Defense Commission of the DPRK send a message of special thanks to scientists, technicians, and others who carried out the third underground nuclear test.

   21 Palestinian Ambassador to the DPRK Ismail Ahmed Mohamed Hasan gives a reception at his embassy in celebration of late leader Kim Jong-il's birth anniversary.

   21 North Korean leader Kim Jong-un goes round the construction site of the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum now under construction by service personnel.

   22 Pak Ui-chun, foreign minister, sends a message of greeting to Mohamed Bolkiah, minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Brunei Darussalam, on its national day.

   22 Kim Yong-nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA), has a talk with the delegation of Koreans in Japan for celebrating the birth anniversary of late leader Kim Jong-il at the Mansudae Assembly Hall in Pyongyang.

   22 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greeting to Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, sultan and head of state of Brunei Darussalam, on the occasion of its national day.

   22 The KCNA says army-civilian rallies take place in North Hwanghae Province, Kusong and Songrim cities, etc. as part of the celebrations of the third underground nuclear test.

   22 The Samjigang Co-op Farm, Jaeryong County, South Hwanghae Province, is awarded a citation in the name of the WPK Central Committee and the DPRK Cabinet.

   22 Kim Jong-un has a photo session with participants in the meeting of officials guiding party lectures in the entire army.

   22 Russian Ambassador to the DPRK Alexander Timonin and Military Attache Dmitri Zheleznikov host a reception at the Taedong River Diplomatic Corps Club in Pyongyang on the occasion of the Day of Defender of the Motherland.

   22 The KCNA says the 28th festival of science and technology of Kim Chaek University of Technology took place from Feb. 20 to 22.

   22 Kim Jong-un guides a flight exercise and a paratrooping drill of the Air and Anti-Air Force and Large Combined Unit 630 of the KPA.

   23 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greeting to Donald Ramotar, president of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, on the occasion of the 43rd anniversary of the proclamation of the republic.

   23 Chief of the KPA Panmunjom Mission sends a telephone message to the commander of the U.S. Forces in S. Korea, threatening that "if your side ignites a war of aggression by staging the reckless joint military exercises Key Resolve and Foal Eagle again, from that moment your fate will be hung by a thread with every hour."

   23 The KCNA claims in a commentary that U.S. hostile policy toward DPRK is the reason for its access to nukes.

   23 State decorations go to 11,592 scientists, technicians, workers, soldier-builders and officials in high recognition of their feats performed for the successful nuclear test.

   24 Minju Joson claims the U.S. is letting loose a spate of invectives that the third nuclear test of the DPRK is "a violation of the U.N. Security Council's resolution" and "a provocation threatening global peace and security".

   24 Premier Choe Yong-rim sends a message of greeting to Jaber Al Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, prime minister of Kuwait, on the occasions of the 52nd anniversary of its independence and the 22nd anniversary of its liberation.

   24 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greeting to Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, emir of Kuwait, on the occasions of the 52nd anniversary of its independence and the 22nd anniversary of its liberation.

   25 The KCNA says DPRK marathone runner Kim Kum-ok won a gold medal at the 14th Asian Marathon Championship held in Hong Kong Feb. 24 with a record of two hours, 32 minutes and 21 seconds.

   25 Contributors to the third underground nuclear test visit the Museum of Weapons and Equipment of the KPA.

   25 Iranian Ambassador to the DPRK Mansour Chavoshi gives a reception at his embassy on the occasion of late leader Kim Jong-il's birth anniversary (the Day of the Shining Star).

   26 Kim Jong-un issues an order to conduct an artillery firing drill in order to examine the capability of artillery units to fight an actual war and guided the drill on the spot.

   26 Rodong Sinmun slams anti-DPRK confrontation moves of U.S., South Korea, claiming that the joint military exercises Key Resolve and Foal Eagle the U.S. and South Korea plan to stage are the culmination of the anti-DPRK confrontation campaign.

   26 Dennis Rodman, ex-player of the NBA of the U.S., arrives in Pyongyang with others.

   26 Haissam Saad, charge d'affaires ad interim of the Syrian embassy in Pyongyang, hosted a reception at his embassy to mark the birth anniversary of late leader Kim Jong-il.

   27 The KCNA says the DPRK presented its paper for the registration of its satellite Kwangmyongsong 3-2 at the U.N. as a signatory to the "Convention on Registration of Objects Launched into Outer Space" after its successful launch on Dec. 12, 2012.

   27 The KCNA says Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greeting to Nicos Anastasiades on Feb. 26 upon his election as president of Cyprus.

   27 The KCNA says in a commentary the Key Resolve and Foal Eagle joint military drills by South Korea and the U.S. are politically-motivated provocations gravely threatening the security of the DPRK.

   27 Kim Jong-un has a photo session with the scientists, technicians, workers, soldiers and officials who contributed to the successful third underground nuclear test.

   27 Basketball players from the DPRK and the U.S. conduct a joint training session in Ryugyong Jong Ju Yong Gymnasium in Pyongyang.
