*** CHRONOLOGICAL REVIEW

SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea from March 21-27, 2013.

  March
21 A delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headed by Vice-minister Kim Hyong-jun leaves Pyongyang to visit African countries.

   21 Ambassador Alexandr Timonin and staff members of the Russian embassy in Pyongyang visit the Kumsung School in Pyongyang on the occasion of the 64th anniversary of the agreement on economic and cultural cooperation between the DPRK (North Korea) and Russia.

   21 The Youth Goat Farm in Hamhung City, South Hamgyong Province, is renamed the DPRK-Mongolia Friendship Hwangbong Branch Farm.

   21 An event on the theme of "Water Cooperation" takes place in Pyongyang on World Water Day with officials of the State Planning Commission, and the ministries of Public Health, and Land and Environmental Conservation in attendance.

   21 The (North) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) says North Korean leader Kim Jong-un received a reply message from Chinese President Xi Jinping on March 16.

   22 Premier Choe Yong-rim makes a field survey of the agro-forestry management method in Suan County, North Hwanghae Province.

   22 Kim Yong-nam, the president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA), sends a message of greeting to Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari on the day of Pakistan.

   22 Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun sends a congratulatory message to George Vella on his appointment as foreign minister of Malta.

   22 Kim Yong-nam sends a message to Sheikh Hasina, the prime minister of Bangladesh, expressing condolences over the death of President Zillur Rahman.

   22 The KCNA says the embassy in Moscow hosted a reception on March 19 to mark the 64th anniversary of the conclusion of the agreement on economic and cultural cooperation between the DPRK and Russia.

   22 Senior officials from the party and the Cabinet, including Kim Yong-nam and Choe Yong-rim, visit the national exhibition of consumer goods on March 20 and 22.

   22 Lao Ambassador to the DPRK Kiettisak Keobanhdith hosts a reception at the Taedong River Diplomatic Club in Pyongyang on the occasion of the 58th anniversary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP).

   22 A spokesman for the Foreign Ministry rejects the U.N. Human Rights Council's "Resolution on Human Rights" against the DPRK as a "very provocative resolution against the DPRK."

   22 Kim Jong-un inspects the command of KPA Unit 1973 honored with the title of the O Jung Hup-led 7th Regiment.

   23 The KCNA says in a commentary the U.S. can never evade blame for the grave situation in Korea.

   23 Rodong Sinmun says, "The Japanese reactionaries had better behave themselves, keeping in mind that the moment they launch a reinvasion of Korea backed by the U.S., they will face ruin."

   23 Kim Jong-un inspects the second battalion under KPA Unit 1973 honored with the title of O Jung Hup-led 7th Regiment.

   24 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greeting to Abdul Hamid, the acting president of Bangladesh, on the occasion of the 42nd anniversary of its independence.

   24 A spokesman for the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea (CPRK) denounces South Korea for stepping up its human rights racket against the DPRK in alignment with the U.S.

   24 Kim Jong-un guides the work in different fields of the KPA. The KCNA says Kim looked at the musical instruments manufactured by the KPA, watched historic relics, mementoes and models to be displayed in the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum and guided the rehearsal of "We Will Achieve a Final Victory with the Arms of Mt. Paektu" by the Song and Dance Ensemble of the KPA.

   24 Kim Jong-un visits a restaurant boat, Taedonggang, being laid down by the KPA. The two-story boat, measuring 68.98 meters in length, has several dinning and banquet halls, etc. and can accommodate 300 people at a time.

   24 Premier Choe Yong-rim sends a message of greeting to Sheikh Hasina, the prime minister of Bangladesh, on the occasion of the 42nd anniversary of its independence.

   25 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greeting to Carlos Papoulias, the president of Greece, on its national day.

   25 An event takes place in Pyongyang to mark the World Tuberculosis Day.

   25 Manfred Grund, the secretary general of the Group of the Christian Democratic Union-Christian Union of German Bundestag, arrives in Pyongyang.
26 The KCNA says North Korea has published the 20-volume Kwangmyong Encyclopedia, which covers all spheres of social life, including history, politics, economy, culture, geography and sciences.

   26 Rodong Sinmun claims, "The Cheonan warship sinking case, which claimed 46 lives, was a deliberate and planned plot choreographed by the U.S. and the south Korean authorities to plunge the north-south ties into a deadlock, stoke tensions on the Korean Peninsula and provoke a war of aggression."

   26 Rodong Sinmun threatens the service personnel and the people of the DPRK warned that it would wipe out the U.S. military bases in south Korea and the bases of the U.S. imperialist aggressors in the Pacific operational theater if they dare make a slightest war move against the DPRK.

   26 The KCNA claims The Washington Post is misleading public opinion by releasing the fictitious story of "drug trafficking" by the DPRK, pursuant to the government authorities' hostile policy toward it.

   26 The KCNA says Foreign Ministry informs the U.N. Security Council of the impending danger of nuclear war on the Korean Peninsula.

   26 The Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of (North) Korea (WPK) releases a decision on convening a plenary meeting of the WPK Central Committee in late March "to discuss and decide on an important issue for victoriously advancing the Korean revolution."

   27 North Korea's head of delegation to the South-North general-level talks sends telephone message to the South that the North-South military communications will be cut off and the members of the North side at the military communications liaison office in the zone under the control of the North and the South in the west coastal area will stop their activities from this moment.

   27 Rodong Sinmun claims the U.S. and the South Korean authorities staged "nuclear attack drills on simulated targets in the DPRK" by activating B-52s capable of mounting nuclear warheads a few days ago and that its armed forces are out in an all-out action being equipped with nuclear weapons, and high precision sophisticated weapons are on the highest alert and are waiting for an order from their Supreme Commander for a war for national reunification.

   27 Premier Choe Yong-rim tours Defense Detachments in Jangjae and Mu Islets.

   27 A spokesman for the North's Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea (CPRK) denounces South Korean President Park Geun-hye's speech at a memorial service for the victims of the Cheonan warship as "invectives slandering the DPRK." The service was held to commemorate the third anniversary of the Cheonan sinking by a North Korean torpedo attack in which 46 South Korean sailors were killed.
