SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea from April 25-May 1, 2013.

  
April
25 A ceremony takes place at the plaza of the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun in Pyongyang to mark the 81st founding anniversary of the (North) Korean People's Army (KPA).

   25 Dancing parties of youth and students take place in Pyongyang and local areas to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the KPA.

   25 The (North) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) says that "order for commemorating the 60th anniversary of the victory in the Fatherland Liberation War (Korean War)" is instituted.

   25 The KCNA says Kim Yong-nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA), on April 24 sent a message of greeting to Abdul Hamid upon his election as president of Bangladesh.

   25 The KCNA says Kim Yong-nam sent a message of greeting to Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, president of the United Republic of Tanzania, on April 23 on the occasion of the 49th anniversary of the Republic.

   25 North Korean papers dedicate editorials to the 81st founding anniversary of the KPA.

   25 North Korean leader Kim Jong-un visits the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun to pay high tribute to Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il on the 81st founding anniversary of the KPA.

   26 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greeting to Ernest Bai Koroma, president of Sierra Leone, on the occasion of the country's 52nd anniversary of independence.

   26 The Policy Department of the National Defense Commission (NDC) threatens that if South Korea keeps aggravating the situation, it will be North Korea, not South Korea, that will be forced to take the final decisive and crucial measures first.

   26 Construction of the Manpho Yonha Power Station is completed in Manpho City, Jagang Province with an inaugural ceremony attended by Premier Park Pong-ju and other officials concerned.

   26 The KCNA says the 13th May 21 Architecture Festival and the 8th Symposium on Architectural Aesthetics will take place in Pyongyang from May 6 to 10.

   27 The KCNA says American citizen Kenneth Bae will soon be taken to the North's Supreme Court to face judgment, noting that the preliminary inquiry into crimes committed by him has been closed.

   27 A spokesman for the General Bureau for Central Guidance to the Development of the Special Zone denounces South Korea's decision "to do away with the Kaesong Industrial Zone."

   27 The KCNA says a lot of explosives, evidence of the crimes committed by the U.S. imperialists in the past Korean War were discovered in the sites for reclaiming Sepho Tableland in Kangwon Province.

   27 Rodong Sinmun says, "The DPRK (North Korea) is fully ready to react to the U.S. nuclear blackmail with a merciless nuclear attack, war of aggression with a total war of justice."

   27 The KCNA says Kim Jong-un visits the Haedanghwa Health Complex near its inauguration together with his wife Ri Sol-ju.

   27 A total of 125 out of 175 South Korean workers remaining at the joint industrial complex in North Korea's border town of Kaesong return to the South, a day after the Seoul government decided to withdraw them following Pyongyang's rejection of an offer for dialogue.

   28 The KCNA says a Korean photo exhibition and a lecture took place in Nigeria on April 18 and 19 on the occasion of the 81st founding anniversary of the KPA.

   28 Rodong Sinmun says U.S. and the South Korean authorities are spreading misinformation that the DPRK is to blame for the failure to open dialogue after putting up the absurd precondition that "the North should stop making provocative remarks" and show its will for "denuclearization" to begin with.

   28 The 73rd plenary session of the Central Committee of the General Federation of Trade Unions of (North) Korea and the 50th Plenary session of the Central Committee of the Kim Il-sung Socialist Youth League take place in Pyongyang.

   29 All but seven South Koreans who have remained at Kaesong industrial park return home. The last batch of 50 South Koreans had originally been scheduled to return home in the day but seven had to stay behind to settle accounting and other unresolved matters, the South's Unification Ministry said.

   29 Rodong Sinmun says South Korea's decision to withdraw all personnel from Kaesong industrial zone was a base and cunning artifice to shift the blame for the situation in the zone onto the DPRK and escape the widespread protest and condemnation of it.

   29 Premier Pak Pong-ju makes a field survey of the coal production at the Sunchon Area Youth Coal Mining Complex located in South Phyongan Province.

   29 A national scientific and technological presentation in the field of land and environmental conservation takes place at the Grand People's Study House in Pyongyang to mark the first anniversary of Kim Jong-un's work entitled "On Bringing about a Revolutionary Turn in Land Administration in Line with the Demands for Building a Thriving Socialist Country."

   29 Rodong Sinmun says the South Korea-U.S. joint military exercises, known as Foal Eagle, are the main factor pushing the situation on the Korean Peninsula to the brink of a nuclear war.

   29 Kim Jong-un inspects the Yanggakdo Football Stadium in Yanggak Islet in Pyongyang together with his wife Ri Sol-ju.

   29 Kim Jong-un watches men's soccer finals held as part of the Mangyongdae Prize Sports Games at Kim Il-sung Stadium in Pyongyang together with his wife Ri sol-ju.

   30 Rodong Sinmun says the North will further spur the building of nuclear forces and keep directing big efforts into economic construction based on it and thus build a thriving nation where people have wealth and luxury under socialism.

   30 The Central Committee of the Kim Il-sung Socialist Youth League decided to convene the 7th Congress of the (North) Korean Children's Union (KCU) early in June.

   30 Rodong Sinmun says the responsibility for bringing the biggest threat of a nuclear war to the Korean Peninsula in history rests with the U.S., which has desperately pursued its hostile policy to stifle North Korea.

   30 An inaugural ceremony of the North Hwanghae Provincial Committee of the DPRK-Mongolia Friendship Association takes place in Sariwon, North Hwanghae Province.

   30 The KCNA says DPRK athletes Jong Kum-hwa and Kim Hye-song bagged gold medals at the 8th Asian Acrobatic Gymnastic Championship held in Kazakhstan from April 27 to 29.

   30 Mansour Chavoshi, Iranian ambassador to the DPRK, holds a reception at his embassy to mark the birth anniversary of late leader Kim Il-sung.

1 A national meeting is held at the Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex on the 123rd May Day with Premier Pak Pong-ju, Secretary of WPK Kim Ki-nam and vice president of the SPA Presidium Yang Hyong-sop in attendance.

   1 The Unhasu concert is given at the People's Theatre in Pyongyang to mark May Day.

   1 Kim Jong-un and his wife Ri Sol-ju watch sports games of public health workers in a sporting event.
