SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea from August 1-7, 2013.

August

1 The (North) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) says that the International Kim Jong-il Prize Council decided to award the prize to Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, president of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, in recognition of his special contribution to the justice and development of the world, human dignity and equality and peace, friendship and unity among countries.

1 Premier Pak Pong-ju makes a field survey of mushroom-growing factories operated by the (North) Korean People's Army (KPA).

1 Kim Yong-nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA), sends a congratulatory message to Mamnoon Hussain upon his winning the presidential election in Pakistan.

1 An Egyptian folk and art exhibition is held at the Egyptian Embassy in Pyongyang to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Pyongyang-Cairo diplomatic relations and the 55th anniversary of the cultural cooperation agreement.

1 Zhang Ping, military, naval and air attache of the Chinese Embassy in Pyongyang, hosts a reception at the Taedonggang Diplomatic Club on the occasion of the 86th anniversary of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.

1 Kim Yong-nam leaves Pyongyang for Tehran to take part in the inaugural ceremony of the Iranian president-elect, Hassan Rowhani, at the invitation of the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

2 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greeting to Macedonia's president, Gjorgje Ivanov, on its national day.

2 The KCNA says scientists of the Biochemical Institute at University of Science in the DPRK (North Korea) developed protoporphyrin injection and capsule highly efficacious for liver protection and treatment.

2 The KCNA says the DPRK has recently issued new postage stamps (four individual stamps and one sheetlet) featuring monumental edifices of the Songun (military-first) era.

2 Pak Pong-ju sends a message of greeting to Macedonia's prime minister, Nikola Gruevski, on the occasion of its national day.

2 A delegation of the Central Committee of the National Construction Front of Laos led by Chairman Phandoaungchit Vongsa arrives in Pyongyang.

3 North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has a photo session with war veterans and commanding officers who took part in the military parade held in celebration of the 60th anniversary of Korean War armistice.

3 The KCNA says meetings, round-table talks, film screenings and photo exhibitions took place in Poland, Nigeria, Ethiopia and Iran from July 24 to 26 to mark the 60th anniversary of the Korean War armistice which the North calls victory in the Fatherland Liberation War.

3 The KCNA says the 10th national sci-tech presentation and show in the field of nano-technology, national sci-tech presentation in the IT field and national sci-tech presentation in the field of mining industry took place from July 30 to Aug. 2.

3 The DPRK Cabinet gives a reception at Okryu Restaurant in Pyongyang for the national women soccer team, which won the 2013 East Asian Cup.

3 A DPRK party and government delegation led by Kim Ki-nam, member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of (North) Korea (WPK), arrives in Malabo to visit Equatorial Guinea.

3 Kim Yong-nam arrives in Tehran to attend the inaugural ceremony of the Iranian president-elect on the invitation of the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

4 Kim Jong-un sends a verbal message in memory of Jung Mong-hon (Chung Mong-hun), former chairman of South Korea's Hyundai Group, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of his death via Won Tong-yon, vice chairman of the (North) Korea Asia-Pacific Committee, to Hyon Jong-un, chairwoman of Hyundai Group and Jung's widow.

4 A memorial service to commemorate the 10th anniversary of death of Jung Mong-hon, former chairman of South Korea's Hyundai Group, takes place at Mt. Kumgang resort.

4 Kim Jong-un enjoys the performance given by the Moranbong Band for the participants in the military parade for celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Korean War armistice.

4 Kim Yong-nam conveys greetings from Kim Jong-un to Hassan Rowhani during a courtesy call on the Iranian president in Tehran on Aug. 3.

4 The Cabinet of the DPRK hosts a reception at Okryu Restaurant for the players who proved successful at the 18th World Taekwondo Championship.

5 Yang Hyong-sop, vice president of the SPA Presidium, meets with the visiting delegation of the Central Committee of the National Construction Front of Laos at the Mansudae Assembly Hall in Pyongyang.

5 The KCNA says the Pyongyang Cermet Tools Development Company has developed high-tech cutting tools for CNC machines and machining centers.

5 An event takes place in Nampho Monday to mark the beginning of the World Breastfeeding Week.

5 The Committee of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the DPRK hosts a reception on the occasion of the 46th anniversary of the ASEAN.

6 Kim Jong-un takes a tour around the Pyongyang Indoor Stadium in renovation and the construction site of apartment houses for scientists close to completion.

6 Kim Yong-nam returns home after participating in the inaugural ceremony of the Iranian president at the invitation of the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

6 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greetings to Alassane Ouattara, president of Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast), on the occasion of the 53rd anniversary of its independence.

6 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greeting to Robert G. Mugabe upon his re-election as president of the Republic of Zimbabwe.

6 The KCNA says the Pyongyang Floriculture Institute has succeeded in breeding a species of transgenic plant, making it possible to cultivate Chrysanthemum in all seasons.

7 North Korea proposes to South Korea to hold another round of talks on Aug. 14 aimed at normalizing a joint industrial complex that has been shuttered since early April. South Korea, which had proposed "final talks" more than a week ago, accepted the North's proposal.

7 The KCNA says an event was held at the Presidential Palace of Equatorial Guinea on Aug. 5 to award the International Kim Jong-il Prize to the president of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea.

7 The KCNA says Kim Ki-nam, secretary of the WPK Central Committee who is heading the DPRK delegation on a visit to Equatorial Guinea, met with President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of the African country on Aug. 5.

7 The KCNA says North Korea awards the degree of candidate academician to three intellectuals, including Ryang Hung-mo, teacher at Kim Il-sung University, in recognition of their great contributions to the building of a thriving nation.
