SEOUL, Oct. 7 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's top defense official voiced a positive view Tuesday of the United States' move to deploy an advanced missile-defense system on the peninsula.

"We are dealing with the THAAD issue from the security perspective," Defense Minister Han Min-koo told reporters at an annual parliamentary audit session. "With usable means limited to counter North Korea's nuclear and missile threats, if THAAD is deployed, it will helpful to our security and defense."

THAAD stands for Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, which is designed to shoot down ballistic missiles in their terminal stage using a hit-to-kill program.
