SEOUL, July 6 (Yonhap) -- South Korea on Thursday lauded the recent emergency United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting for denouncing North Korea's latest ballistic missile launch in a speedy and resolute manner.

The U.N. council meeting was held on Wednesday (New York time), at the request of South Korea, the United States and Japan, to discuss the international community's response to North Korea's first test of an intercontinental ballistic missile, known as Hwasong-14, a day earlier.

"Our (South Korean) government appreciates that all the UNSC member countries speedily and powerfully condemned the latest North Korean ballistic missile launch and expressed their will to react resolutely," foreign ministry spokesman Cho June-hyuck said in a press briefing.

Currently, council member countries are discussing how to respond to the missile launch, Cho said, adding that South Korea is making relevant diplomatic efforts.
