SEOUL, Sept. 12 (Yonhap) -- North Korea's propaganda media on Wednesday slammed South Korea's military for a recent drill and its plan to establish a new mobile combat unit.

Uriminzokkiri, the North's external propaganda website, said in a commentary that seeking a military confrontation behind a conversation should never be tolerated.

"Conversation and confrontation, and peace and war threat can never be compatible," said the commentary.

The remarks came on the eve of inter-Korean working-level military talks at the peace village of Panmunjom.

Referring to South Korea's plan to create a new ground forces command under the new Defense Reform 2.0 initiative, unveiled in July, the North's website said that the plan is a military provocation that goes counter to the Panmunjom Declaration, an inter-Korean summit agreement on peace, and the mood of detente on the Korean Peninsula.

It also took issue with an outdoor tactical drill conducted by the 36th Infantry Division of the South Korean Army from Sept. 3-7 to prepare for an enemy infiltration.

"The history of inter-Korean relations offers a serious lesson that true reconciliation and unity cannot be achieved without abandoning knives hidden in the inside and any agreement can be easily nullified," said the commentary, urging the South's military to ponder carefully on its provocation and act discreetly.
