SEOUL, March 7 (Yonhap) -- South Korean bobsledders who claimed sliver at the PyeongChang Olympics said Wednesday that they will work to achieve better results at the next Winter Games in Beijing.
The team of Won Yun-jong, Seo Young-woo, Jun Jung-lin and Kim Dong-hyun tied for second with a German team in the four-man bobsleigh competition at the PyeongChang Olympics last month and became first Asian bobsledders to win a medal at a Winter Olympics.
Won, the pilot of the team, said it was meaningful that they earned good results in the end. Won and his brakeman Seo were medal contenders for the two-man bobsleigh competition, but ended up in sixth place. They managed to go home with silver from the four-man event to overcome their sad memories in the two-man race.
"I was sorry for the performance in the two-man race, but with all the help from coaches and athletes, we had good results in the end," he said. "It's meaningful that we also showed possibility for the Beijing Olympics."
Seo, who served as a pushman for the four-man team, said they'll not stop with their silver at the PyeongChang Olympics.
"I feel somewhat sad after we finished the Olympics, which was a dream stage to us," he said. "Many people worked hard for one goal and we earned a precious silver medal, so I'm thankful for that."
Kim, a brakeman, said they'll work step by step for Beijing 2022 like they did for PyeongChang 2018.
"Many people say that our result was unexpected, but we've been working gradually to achieve our goal," he said. "For the Beijing Olympics, we'll also set up an organized plan and will show improved performance."
Jun, another pushman for the four-man team, said he hopes to see massive fan support like his team experienced at the PyeongChang Olympics.
"Despite the two-man bobsleigh result, many fans supported us and that's why we had a good results in the four-man," he said. "We will work hard to get better results at the Beijing Olympics."
