S. Korea aims to raise broadband speeds 10-fold
SEOUL, May 6 (Yonhap) -- South Korea is looking to boost its broadband speeds 10-fold in order to meet an explosive growth in data traffic, with Giga-speed Internet connections set to be available in most parts of the country by 2017, the information and technology ministry said Monday.

The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning said it has picked five firms, including KT Corp. and SK Telecom Co., as trial service providers to expand the service. As of last year, a total of 12,000 households subscribed to the service, according to the ministry.
