SEOUL, Sept. 19 (Yonhap) -- A North Korean boxing coach has been named the flag bearer for his country at the opening ceremony of this year's Asian Games, the sporting event's organizers said Friday.
Sok Yong-bom, 55, will carry the flag of his country and lead the delegation at the official ceremony to be held at Incheon Asiad Main Stadium on Friday. The Asiad will run for 16 days at the port city of Incheon.
It is rare for a coach to bear the national flag as it is a task usually reserved for athletes. South Korea, for instance, chose Olympic wrestling gold medalist Kim Hyeon-woo as its flag bearer.
Led by Sok, North Korea will enter the main stadium 30th in line, after Japan, during a parade of nations.
The reclusive country sent a 273-member delegation to this year's Asiad south of the border, including 150 athletes competing in 14 sports. They are hoping to win about 10 golds, in wrestling and women's football among others, to finish in the top 10 of the medal standings.
