INCHEON, Oct. 3 (Yonhap) -- The world title holders from North Korea topped the podium in mixed doubles table tennis at the Asian Games on Friday, bringing their home country its 11th gold at the continental event.
Kim Hyok-bong and Kim Jong from North Korea defeated Jiang Tianyi and Lee Ho Ching from Hong Kong 4-1 in the lopsided final at Suwon Gymnasium in the city of Suwon, just south of South Korea's capital city of Seoul.
Friday's victory brought the total number of gold medals the communist country has picked up here to 11. This is also the North's first table tennis gold here the second medal in the sport after the bronze won in the women's team event.
The two Kims won the World Championships that took place in Paris in May last year and picked up the gold at the East Asian Games in China's Tianjin the same year.
