BUSAN, Nov. 3 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's ICT ministry on Monday kicked off a science festival at the venue of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference 2014, aiming to promote science among the youth as well as to global delegates visiting Busan.

"(The festival will be an opportunity) to build friendship with the Korean audiences through the language of science that will lead to the mutual advancement of science-culture and creativity in our society." said the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity, the co-host of the festival.

Themed "ICT & Computational Thinking Leading Imagination, Innovation," the 2014 Korea Science Creativity Festival will showcase three "zones" where ICT firms from home and abroad will display education contents and other latest technologies, the organizer said.

With science study groups from some 200 local elementary, middle and high schools also participating, the organizer said it expects around 300,000 visitors at the venue.

South Korea is currently hosting the 19th ITU Plenipotentiary Conference, referred to as the PP-14, in the port city of Busan until Nov. 7.

The ITU, a U.N. agency, deals with technological standards, radio frequency allocations and improvements in communications services.
