(Universiade) Son Yeon-jae wins hoop gold in rhythmic gymnastics

GWANGJU, July 13 (Yonhap) -- Rhythmic gymnast Son Yeon-jae grabbed the gold medal in hoop at the Universiade on Monday, getting her quest for multiple titles off to a smooth start.
The 21-year-old scored 18.300 points to clinch South Korea's first gold medal in the apparatus at Kwangju Women's University Gymnasium.
Maria Titova of Russia followed with 18.000 points. Melitina Staniouta took bronze with 17.950 points.
On Sunday, Son won the gold medal in the all-around at the Universiade. In the final, which doubled as the qualifiers for each apparatus, she ranked first in all four: hoop, ribbon, clubs and ball.
The finals for ball, clubs and ribbon will take place later Monday.
